Haha :-)
I can hear Mals teeth grinding from my end of the M42!
Heres a suggestion.
When Merlin finishes his Halifax,,(theres optimism!),instead of eating his shorts Mal should do an online build of this monstrosity

What's the sacrilegious part- a German engine on the Spit, or the use of the Fujimi 1/48 Mk. V? :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Hi Chuck

It's a conversion I've always wanted to model! See also the Fusion Models resin set. Sorry Mal... :-)

That is being optimistic! But life would be so dull without the prospect of Mal with a mouthful of shorts... :-)

All the best

Ok, the question nobody wants to ask: how much better did the Spit perform?

I'll eat my 'king shorts before I build one of these. The sacrilage is destroying the lines of this aircraft and putting crosses on it.

How much better did it perform? Who was it said, "give me a Squadron of Spitfires" (or something like that) You can't change perfection

Yes it's true that "You just can't have too many Spitfires", but this one doesn't count.

Thanks Mal, for giving me just what I wanted a good Chuckle :-) :-) :-)

When I saw that conversion, I was sure your response would be just as you posted it. I had a good laugh reading it and I hope you had a good laugh writing it.

All the Best and you are right "You can't have too many Spitfires"

adolf galland during the battle of britain (one of my favourite scenes in the 1969 film) who later became general of fighters
and on the subject of this film, where do the merlin engined 109's stand in all this?

Ah, well there would be absolutely nothing wrong with putting a Merlin engine in anything, the Merlined Messe is one example. The one aircraft that would have really benefited was the Whirlwind. Now what an awesome machine that would have been, we might (might) even have be hearing:
"You just can't have too many Whirlwinds" (but not in Florida, of course )

Hi Mal

We can't have that... you'll need a spare pair when I finish my Halifax! :-) :-)

As regards performance - apparently, the hybrid proved excellent! The extra power gave it superior speed and altitude over a standard Mk V - and the view for taxying was much improved by the lower nose profile.

But here's something to give Mal nightmares:

Don't worry - it's not a German secret squadron... the RAF painted up some Spits to play the role of Bf 109s for a display at Farnborough in 1950.

All the best

Thank heavens for that!!
For a very nasty moment I thought that Germany had won the Battle of Britain and nobody had bothered to tell me
