FW 190 aerial wire question
Posted: Friday, January 20, 2006 - 10:39 PM UTC
i'm just about ready to put the canopy on a 190 F8 in the open position, and i'm sure i've seen the wire slack on these aircraft when the hood was pulled back. BUT having had a look around a few sites at 190's, i have'nt seen one like that, all the wires are shown as being straight, and i'm wondering if i've gotten another plane mixed up with it

Hi Phil,
No your right it is the FW190 that can have a slack antenna wire. Don't quote me on this but I am under the impression that it depends on which hood was fitted. The square straight sided one had a taught wire, the "blown" hood had no tensioning mechanism so the wire went slack when the hood was open. It did have a spring, at the tail post, to tension the wire when closed.
My Fw190D-9 has a blown hood, if it were open the antenna wire would be slack.
