Hi there

I've got the Airfix 1/24 Spitfire V and wanted to do something a little more different with it than what's in the box. After looking around I decided on a P.R. IV in SEAC markings. After searching through some literature I found pictures of the aircraft I want to portray.

Can anyone tell me what work I would need to carry out to convert the standard Mk V into this PR IV? I'm assuming that things like the gunsight, armament etc were removed but I need to know how many cameras were installed and where and anything else that I'll need to add/remove to make this particular Spitfire.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Harri.

Harri,
It looks like you'll need a PR teardrop canopy, 2 X ventral cameras under the belly, 1 X camera on the port side where the radio equipment would normally go, a fuel cell directly behind the pilot and a small fuel blister under the port wing.
I hope this info is helpful and basically sound. If I've given you any dodgy stuff hopefully some one can put us both right :-)

I've just seen a photo of Spitfire Mk IV BP914 of No. 2 PRU in Qasaba Egypt, April 1942. This machine most certainly hasn't got a camera fitted behind the cockpit but does have a radio mast and is fitted with a tropical filter. A small bulge on the underside of the port wing is also visible. I'm only guessing as the photo is B&W but the colour of the beast looks like a medium grey/PRU blue topside with a slightly darker underside.
I found this photo in the November 2005 issue of Model Aircraft Monthly.

Cheers Mark

This certainly sounds more like the type that is in my pictures and others that I have seen.

To be honest my biggest concern is getting the plain windscreen without the armoured front. Should be an interesting undertaking!

Harri,
That shouldn't be that difficult for a professional model builder, surely
