This is the 1/72 scale Huma Me 309 that was built as the little known T-tail version of this a/c.
I painted and marked this model as a Reich defense a/c flown by JG 27.

Nice aircraft model, Les... What did you use for the background? Was this a fairly good kit to build?

Very nice Les!
And ditto what Penny said. I would love to be able to do a background like that.
The black and white picture is the stuff. Looks straight out of a Time Life book of WWII aviation.

Thanks very much Penny, Hermon, and Nigel!

Penny,
The Huma Me 309 kit is an older Huma offering and thus crude compared with the new kits produced by the Japanese companies and Revell of Germany.
The fit of some of the parts is not good and will need filling. The cockpit is very sparse and the decals are worthless. But if you must have a 1/72 scale Me 309 this is about the only choice you have. This is the second Huma kit in a row that I have built and despite some problems with them I like them and will build more of them.

Hermon,
The backdrop used in these pictures came from a model RR layout.
Last Friday I airbrushed a new backdrop that I will be using from now on. The model RR backdrop looks great but is just too fragile for using outside and wrinkles from being exposed to sunlight start to appear after a while, the backdrop I painted does not look nearly as good as the model RR backdrop but is much more durable, I plan on using it tomorrow when I photograph my new model and will see how it works.

Nigel,
I use a Badger 150 with the fine head and needle assembly and when I need to spray small mottles or fine lines I thin my paint a little bit more.
BTW I use Model Master enamels.

HTH

Hi all!

Carlos, the Me 309 never saw combat. It was a prototype meant to replace the Bf 109. Unfortunately (or fortunately, it depends from wich side you see it), it was not successfull!
Les, this is a great model and the pictures are awesome. You really should consider writing a feature about it. We should be hundreds now to have asked you how you are doing this! :-) Please share your secrets about your "Wunderwaffen" with us!

Thanks very much Jean-Luc!

I just painted a new backdrop and will post pics of it soon, the pictures will show some of what I do.

Besides that I don't know HOW to write an article explaining how I take my pictures.
