Hi all.
The weekend is upon us,and my last weekend before I go back to work.So the days of modelling everyday are coming to a close for now.
Still,,Im going to be able to finish my Airfix Hurricane before I go.
Heres where it stands at the moment.
All being well it will be finished sometime Sunday.
For something to look forward to when I get back home next month,Ive made a start on the cockpit of my Academy FW190D. It'll be my first subject with cockpit detail and engraved panel lines,,,woohoo:):)
Blimey,,those instrument panels are small in 1/72!!
All the recent talk about mottle camoflage must have got to me

hello nige! what version hurricane is that? i have an airfix 1/72 hurricane kit, that has two options a MK1 or a MK11 neither of which are the same as yours. that hurricane will look sweet next to your spitfire, and the D9 will look smart next to your 109

So that's how you've managed to be so productive! :-)
I hope you'll find the time to build something on your spare time, since you are making tremendous progress. That Hurricane looks like business!!! And I can see that you've rounded up all the necessary tools and liquids!
Here's a good article that will help you with the 1/72 scale instruments.
Cheers!

Hi Phil
There are 3 Airfix Hurricane kits in 1/72. A Mk. I, Mk. I/IIB and the ex Heller Mk.IIC. The Mk I/IIB kit has the IIB wing as well as the longer nose so is unsuitable to use to make a Mk I. The kit also includes rocket rails and 60lb rockets, which were used on the Mk IV but dosn't include the Mk IV armoured radiator.

Hi all.
Its the Airfix Mk1 that comes with the markings for Stanford Tucks plane.
Ive tried a few new things on this one and so far they have worked fine, and Ive been practicing a "new" (for me anyway) technique for painting the exhausts.I'll detail these when I post photos of the finished project.
Polar Bear,thats a great link.
Its for 1/48,thumbnail size, and 1/72 is about little fingernail size
The cockpit tub of the 190 is making progress, and Ive got some photoetched seatbelts to go with it.Ive started doing bits and pieces on the 190,and Ive drilled out the nose cannons and the exhaust ports tonight.Amazing how little details like that make such a big difference.
Im away from home when Im working so modelling is right out of the question Im afraid, but Ive got plenty of projects lined up for when time permits.
I shall be logging onto the site as and when I can and keeping up with the threads.

Hi Nigel.
That Hurricane is looking great. I hope you can find time for modeling.
This weekend my wife and daughter travel to Uruguay for a couple of days, so I´ll be working on my Moosie.
Regards.

Hi Nige,
Your Hurri is looking good and seems close to finishing.
Why don't you get a tool box and put in a few paints, brushes, scalpels and stuff and do some modelling on the move.
Can't wait to see your FW190D. Will you be airbrushing freehand for the camo. As for 1/72 cockpits, i have enough trouble with 1/48 so rather you than me :-) . Can't wait to see some in progress pics of it.
Take care, don't work to hard and don't let the groupies mob you ( well not to much anyway :-)8 :-) ).

Another nice one Nige, I spotted it as Tucks Hurri straight away, has it got the Burma flag on the kick out door on the starboard side? What did you use for the cockpit masking?
If you ever get the chance read Tucks book, "Fly for your life" an inspiring read I have it somewhere and if I could find it I would re-read it and let you have it.

Hi guys.
Ive thought about taking some bits away with me but to be honest a gig/tour bus/hotel room is not where I want to be doing any building.
Mal,,yes it has got the Burma flag, and I will look out for RST's book.Another interest of mine is browsing through second hand book shops on days off. That one only really works in the UK and other english speaking countries though for obvious reasons.
Hermon,,,
I think Im right in saying that some planes were flown with covers over the canopy as part of night flying/instrument flying training.
Andy,,,Its amazing the detail in 1/72 canopies and Im thinking of investing in one of those magnifyers/lights to help the old eyes out.
Had a good day on the Hurri,,a very good day actually, and all thats left is a bit of silver pencil work and exhaust/cordite stains.
To be honest,Im so pleased with the way this one has turned out Im debating as to weather it or not,but I think I'll give it a slight weathering so its in keeping with the others.
i will take some pics tomorrow when I can use daylight and post them on here.
Happy days

who are you going on tour with nigel?
Posted: Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 03:42 PM UTC
Hi Phil.
Its not a tour this time,(for a change),,it a big "oneoff",,which normally involves a lot of sittting around with the lighting designer having to pander to the film peoples needs,,,( no offence Rowan,,,hahaha)
My ears need a rest after the Prodigy tour still
