I found some color charts online in pdf format for various manufacturers of paint. Is it possible to get these as posters so the colors are correct? My printer doesn't distinguish between several of the colors. Another possiblitity is having them printed at a copy shop, but I'd rather get a poster if possible

Hey BugNerd,
I've run into the same problem myself. What I did was simply save the chart in my favorites list so that I could pull it up for reference when needed on my PC. Plus, whenever anyone questions a specific color I've used on one of my models I say that I'm using a crapy camera and that the color is correct but just not coming out right in the pictures. :-)

I'll have to keep that in mind :-) But then someone might say I'm a bad photographer.
About just using the pdf charts, I get concerned that the monitor color good be off a little, but maybe it's not enough to make any difference.

Hi BugNerd
could you please tell us the site you found the pdf colour charts?
They could prove very useful for doing the ole profiles.
And if its computer to computer stuff the colours may not be too bad a match... he hopes...lol.
Colour sync is a problem. Some of my early profiles are a little vivid to say the least when viewed on site. Yet on my computer as it was then they looked ok.
Since then the hard drive has been replaced and everything scratched and re-loaded and adjusted. So its a lot better these days....fingers crossed.
Many thanks
Cheers
Peter

I'll try to find them again :-) I saw a couple and downloaded the pdf files to my computer, but didn't bookmark the page...oops
*Edit* 19Feb06 1:56 am CST (I think I've stayed up too late lol)
This one interactive, not pdf. But I think I may found the pdf's somewhere here:
http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_fs.htm
Model Master:
http://www.testors.com/tes_cds/color_charts/4600_MM_(Acrylic).pdf
Testor Acrylics:
http://www.testors.com/tes_cds/color_charts/1300_Testors_(Acrylic).pdf
Testor Enamels:
http://www.testors.com/tes_cds/color_charts/1100_Testors_(Enamel).pdf
This one has several for download:
http://www.rlm.at/start_e.htm?cont/thema02_e.htm&1
Hop ethat helps!! I considered using the charts to try to mix the colors myself. It seems less expensive to buy larger containers of acrylic paint. Might be more of a hassle, but I'm finding that some colors in the instructions aren't really what I wanted anyway.
I'd be interested to know if anyone here mixes their own colors or at least hearing from those that tried and found it didn't work. No need to reinvent the wheel as they say.

After trying hard to match colors, I just bit the bullet and bought the color books from Humbrol and Floquil. Now I have good primary references for Polly Scale and Humbrol paints. I can also cross-reference them to other manufacture's paints(mostly Model-Master). I am glad I purchased them.

I contacted Dragon models (Gunze Sangyo paint) and Testors about color charts. It's been about a week, but both sent great packets of info including catalogs and color charts!! They stuff they sent is pretty amazing.
Testors packet contained painting hints and troubleshooting stuff.
I'm very impressed with them!
