I'm considering buying this kit. Can anyone tell me if it contains alternate markings? I want a 35th scale Cobra, but don't want to do the Gold scheme.

I got this at a yard sale and passed it on. As I remember, it only had the gold markings. Have you checked for aftermaket decals? Squadron has tons of decals in their catalog.

I've yet to locate a set of decals to do the Gold Cobra as a normal bird. I picked up my MRC kits when a local TRU in Alabama clearanced all of them at $4.90 (got 1 Gold Cobra & 4 Kiowa Warriors and nasty looks from the wife). I've got the Cobra and 2 Kiowas left.

Rob,
you snagged the cobras and kiowa's for $5 ea!!!
I paid $16 feach or all my hueys, cobras and kiowas at a full boat Toys R Us, not the outlet..
and I thought I got a deal! Luckily they had the Guindam kits for the wife, so the expense of my purchase was hidden there in with hers..
I think Two Bob's is coming out with an aftermarket decal set for the Whiskey model.
I'll have to dig my gold out and see what the differences are between it and the W.
Anyone got one right in hand?
Mine are in storage fir that very reason, I was waiting for the flood of aftermarket partts and decals that never surfaced. I had shelved the Kiowa since I munged up the unstrument coaming and it interferes with the canopy glass.
I have the Verlnden cockpit, the resin is ok, haven't built it, but the etched parts look pretty cruddy in my sample.
HTH,
Mike

The Gold Cobra is labeled as an AH-1T+, like the prototype for the AH-1W. The TRU I got mine at was a regular Toys R Us, the kits were listed on the shelf at $9.90, but rang up as $4.90. The shelf price was $9.90 and each kit rang up as the UH-1C Cobra $4.90. It was around 1998. Too bad there weren't any of the MRC UH-1C kits left and all of my Kiowas were the exact same boxing, "Thugs" and not "Black Death". Anyone know the difference between those two kits? Besides the markings.

I bought the "Thugs" kit a while back. The hobby shop also has the "Black Death" kit.
I'd also be interested in knowing if there are any differences.

No Difference in the kits besides markings. You can change the weapons stores on them, both kits contain the extra TOW and Zuni rocket pods instead of the .50 cal gun. Either weapon set-up is appropriate for the Kiowa Warrior, weapon set-up is mission dependant, although the gun and rocket pod combo is the most common..

YES, Two Bobs just released decals for the W version both in 1/48 and 1/35. I just picked mine up Christmas Eve while I was at work. The set has decals for, I think 4 different W's. One is for sure during Desert Storm and one is from Endouring Freedom.

You can search E-Bay for the other MRC Cobra kit. They have two out, 1 Black and gold the other with Marine Corps markings. They are identical kits except for the decals and the mold colors. The Marine Cobra is molded in grey.

I thought the gold version was unique so I went ahead and painted it up that way....Not bad.

You should post some pictures. I'm not sure my modelling skills or patience is up to doing that scheme.

I have seriously considered doing mine in US Army markings. Sort of a "what would a Super Cobra look like if it had been adopted by the Army?"

Well not be a pain-in-the-arse to ya Sabot but the Army would have never bought the twin-pack Cobras because they are way too heavy for the Army's requirments.Basically the only reason why the Marines ever got it was because they could have power if one of the engines blew while feet wet.
Although I gotta admit myself it would have been pretty sweet to see a Army Whiskey Cobra. If you do try I defienatly wanna see some pics amigo.

Charles,
you're welcome. have fun with it.
progress on the T55 is slowed by 'honey-do' projects and a 3 yr old.
