Hi All.
Well,,I finally made it to the end,and here is my finished pink Spitfire.
Its the Special Hobby kit in 1/72 and I think its the only Mk.X available in that scale.
A bit of a battle with it being the first limited edition model Ive attempted.
Certainly learned a lot building this one!
I preshaded in red and its sprayed in Xtracolour pru pink.A very light burnt umber oil wash and a light coat of satin varnish.
I wont give too many build details as Im in the middle of writing a review for this one.
As always,,please feel free to pick it to pieces. Its the best way to learn and I wont be offended
EDIT. Sorry guys,,first time Ive used photobucket to upload photos. No idea how they ended up
this BIG!! Still ,at least you can have a real close up look If anyone can resize these it might be a good idea Ive tried but ended up with thumbnails. All or nothing,,rather like building this model!
Many thanks for resizing the photos guys
Also,,the subject should of course be WW2 Great Britain!!

Hi Nige,
Another nice model and an interesting Spitfire
The pics don't really show off the pre-shading and wash, but where the wash can be seen, aileron and elevator, it looks well done.
Only a couple of things:
1. There would have been no antenna wire on this marque.
2. I'm not sure, but judging by the gap at the tail wheel housing, this aircraft is based on a Mk8? it would therefor have had a retractable tail wheel and doors for it in these gaps. Where there any in the kit?
Again a nice build Nige, I hope I will get to see it soon, maybe at Hinkley?

Hi Mal.
Thanks for the comments.
I thought the angle of the antenna wire looked a bit odd. That should come off easily I hope.
Your absolutely right,,their should be tail wheel covers.
They did come with the kit,but while fitting the first one the carpet monster jumped out and ate it!.
Ive kept the other one and will add them both if it ever escapes the monsters evil clutches.
The preshading imho, has worked out quite well but as you say isnt visible in the pics.
It looks as though I'll be able to attend Hinckley and I'll happily bring this along so you can have a better look.

Hi Nigel!
I won't make comments about your nice looking Spitfire... I think Mal is the specialist!
But I'll make some comments about the pictures. I think you should try different light settings. The first one looks good as there is a good contrast. But the following are a bit over exposed. Did you use a flashlight? Even if not, the settings you used (camera or lights) have "eaten" all the details of your model. But I must admit making pictures of a Pink coloured Spitfire isn't an easy job!

Nice one Nige, through blood sweat and tears you have finally finished it. A vey colourful addition to your growing aircraft collection.
As i know next to nothing about Spitfires and photography i'll defer to what Mal and Jean-Luc have said, but i can't wait to see the pink plane in the flesh.
Looking forward to reading the review on this build.

P.S You will have to try a vac-form kit now you have tryed vac-form canopys :-) .

Great to see such a pink beauty, Nigel! :-)
It would be nice to see some close-ups, in order to see details and to be able to judge how the pre-shading worked out. It is hard to see panellines, surface details etc since the pictures are so bright.
Writing a review already!? Good for you! Do be aware of all the rivet counters out there, especially on the subject of Spitfires! :-)
Are you leaving 1/72 now? Please stay!!!
Cheers!

Hi all.
Thanks for the comments and advice.Always learning
Mal,
The ariel wire has been removed but the carpet monster has taken the tailwheel undercarriage door deep into his dark cave for now.Maybe when he gets bored of playing with it or I feed it somemore he may give it me back.
Jean Luc,Polar Bear,
Im looking into buying some more lights and am always experimenting with the camera. If I get any better results I will post them as and when I can.Yes,its quite difficult to photograph a pink spit, especially with the satin varnish reflecting the light.
Andy,,
Errm,,how can I put this,,,,,,,NO!!!,,,, :-)
Polar Bear,
Heres a link to my first Armorama review.
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/1515
Dont worry,,,Im not going anywhere ,,,Apart from the 1/24 Spit of course,,,but we all know what they say about not having too many Spitfires dont we?
In fact,,I might just do another Spitfire now this ones finished :)

thats a neat spitfire you've built nigel, i'm a bit of a fan of the more unconventionable schemes on familiar aircraft. i have a little tip that might help you find your missing tailwheel door, what i have done is to put some tights over the end of my hoover and clean an area, then drop the fluff and bits into a plastic tray to sort through. i was able to recover two 5 mm diameter etched parts and a broken off stuka tailwheel this way

Thanks Mal.It feels great seeing my first review in print.Hope it helps anyone who chooses to tackle this kit in the future.I didnt see a "whats new" announcement either.I think it slipped through the net.Maybe someone could add one as it was only on the homepage for a day or so.
Ive started the Airfix Tiger Moth that I bought at the MK show. All that talk of rigging a couple of months ago got to me.Not sure what fighter Im going to do next.A couple in my stash are attracting my attention.

An interesting angle on this one Nigel and a nice surprise to see a Spitfire in this unusual colour scheme.
I thought you review was very interesting and I liked the way it was written, - straight to the point, no waffle, with a few building tips added in to help anyone who wishes to build this kit.
As ever, I look forward to the next one.

Hi all.
Good news.
The carpet monster has given up the tailwheel door and I have been able to attach them finally.
I tried another photo and although its not brilliant it may show up the preshading a little more.
Thanks for all the comments everyone. One of the things that makes this site so special is the interaction of the forums
The ariel wire has also been removed. Thanks Mal for pointing that one out
