Thought i would post some pics of an OOB build i have been doing. Its Special Hobbys 1/48 Gloster Pioneer .
The build took me about 18 hours in total and i just wanted to finish something as i have been having trouble with my last build ( Supermarine Attackers decal sheet is useless ).
The plane was pre-sprayed with Tamiya flat black and then sprayed with Alclad Aluminium, duraluminium and jet exhaust. The control surfaces were painted with Halfords primer.
I would like to thank Jean-Luc for his excellent build review of this kit as it helped enormously.

P.S Thought i would do the all metal early version as you don't see this one built a lot .

Hi Andy
That's a real beauty! The finish of the E.28 at the time of it's roll-out has always intrigued me. While there are a number of references to a n/m finish, photos in Tim Kershaw's "Jet Pioneers" do seem to show a smooth paint job (colour unconfirmed) with the fabric covered control-surfaces still in their primer (probably Red Oxide).
That's not meant to detract from a stunning build in any way.
All the best and keep 'em coming!

Thanks Rowan.
I looked into the colour scheme and found conflicting reports on n/m- painted and grey-red oxide surfaces, and as i couldn't pin down the true colours i went for this combo.

Hi Andy!
Glad I've helped you in some way or another
Your Pioneer looks great in all metal... somehow even more "Pioneerish" :-) The kit can just be what you said: a nice fast OOB build that makes a change from other more complex ones
Now you just have to build that Heinkel He 176 to have the pair!

Hi Andy.
Your becoming a real "speedygonzales" with your builds,,18 hours,,wow!
Looks great and I like the natural metal finish.
What did you use for primer,as I thought Alclad could only be applied over a gloss base, and any issues with the Alclad in general?

i really like metal finishes because of the shine. It's nice.
A question,
How do you paint the canopy? I mean the metal parts of the canopy. I can't do this without staining the glass aprts of the canopy

Hi Nige,
The primer that i use is Halfords plastic primer for cars and is matt.
The Alclad goes on really well, but you have to be careful not to spray to much on as it comes out the airbrush really quick. oh yeah and it stinks so wear a mask .

Hi Fabian,
Sometimes i will mask the canopy with Tamiya masking tape and cut out the frames with a sharp knife, but i also, if the canopy is not to complicated (such as this one) i will hand paint it. I use very little paint but will paint it several times.

Thanks Carlos and RV for your kind words.
No the kit isn't a short run kit as far as i know. It was on special offer at Hannants, at 1/3rd discount ( which is why i got it ).
Thanks Andy (++)

Hi Carlos and Andy!
Special Hobby's 1/48 Gloster Pioneer IS a Short Run kit. It was not produced with the high standard metal molds of the big manufacturers (Tamiya, Hasegawa, Revell, Trumpeter, Dragon, Monogram, Airfix, Heller in no order of preference). Short Run doesn't mean the kit in itself is bad but only that the molds produced won't last as long as mainstream manufacturer ones. The Pioneer kit was probably produced in a given number and once all will be sold, they won't be available anymore (unless the mold didn't suffered too much and there is a demand). This is why they are called "Short Run". Classic Airframes's first kits for example aren't produced anymore and you can only find some at swap meets or via the web on E-Bay. If it would be Tamiya, they would have been re-released a few time now!

Thanks for clarifying that Jean-luc. Its just usually Hannants tell you on the list that it is a short run kit, but they didn't on this one . Better buy another one then, so i can do the camo version .
