Hello all,

I would like to know the product name of the liquid masking material I find some modelers use when masking their canopies. When dried it has a purplish tinge to it.

I have been using a liquid mask called "PARMA" - light blue color. I have been dissatisfied with the results and have been looking for another option. A "fog" is noticible in places after the mask is peeled off of canopies coated with Future. I even let the Future-d canopies dry for 48 hours before commiting to liquid and tape masks.

I don't believe PARMA has any amonia in it.

Or do you recommend something else?

Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul.
Welcome to the aircraft forum
I think you are refering to Humbrol Maskol.
This is a purple tinged liquid mask.
I wouldnt recommend it for masking canopy frames though.
Personally I use Tamiya masking tape and cut out the frames with a new knife blade. There are many other methods.
A lot of guys swear by Parafilm M but its not the easiest thing to get hold of.
Hope this helps.

The stuff you are refering to is Maskol (sp).. If you arent happy with that, you could try some art masking fluid.. You can get it at any arts and craft store.. Or you could pick up a bottle of rubber cement.. I used some rubber cement on a Bison Im doing currently to produce some chipped paint...Hope it helps.

my experience with that masking fluid is rather bad. Sometimes it is very difficult to remove. Sometimes when it is not applied thick enough the paint still gets to the canopy, and in most cases the borders are not as straght as I would like them to be. And most of it dries in the botlle instead of on a model;-)

therefore using the Tamiya making tape, as described above is my prefered option.

Humbrol Maskol has that purple colour.
You must first use Tamiya masking tape in thiny stripes (2 mm) positioned closely by to the frames and then fill with Maskol the places that are not covered with the tape.

Thank you all for your prompt help. I believe I will try the Humbrol stuff and see if I like the results.

Micromark, sells a similar product called "mask-it easy" it to does not work. I to used to use tamiya tape, but parafilm -m is the best, hands down
