Hi
as most of you know, I play around with both experimental aircraft and experimental camo schemes from a German Luft 46 viewpoint.

I've often wondered what experimental camo schemes the British tried other than the standard schemes we are all familiar with.
Plus any other WW2 airforce for that matter.

Anyone have any info or refs please?

Many thanks
Peter

In 1944 the Air Fighting Development Unit flew unpainted Tempests against the V1s; one reference, I have, says that the sole radar-equipped Typhoon was Extra Dark Sea Green and Mid-Stone. It's a bit far, for you, but the AFDU's file, in the National Archive (used to be Public Records Office,) might have some information. Next best is to ask the RAF Museum if thay have anything on them.

Dennis and Edgar
thank you both very much.

The reason I'm trying to find experimental schemes is when I get back to Saudi from home in UK I will be bringing back some ref books for British secret project aircraft. I plan to do a profile set of the other side of the Luft 46 coin so to speak and thought a few experimental camo jobs might sit quite nicely.

So Dennis if you could please dig out the SAM article it would be a big help I'm sure. I'd be very grateful.

Again many thanks
Peter

Pete, funny thing is I resently shot paint on a Ta-154 Moskito for a Luft 46 project. I was going RLM74/75/76 combo for a possible North atlantic stationed F/B. I wraped almost all the way down the side like the standard bomber camo. I also did all the demarkation lines softedge and only mottled the tail as standard for most Luftwaffe subject. Funny thing My North Atlantic Moskito looks just like the other North atlantic Mosquito. So it can't be too far off for the UK to maybe use US or even german camo as a lead off for the coming years. Who know what would have been STUG
