I've always assumed the the colors for USN aircraft in the 60's and 70's was Flat Gull Gray (FS 36440) over Gloss White (FS 17xxx). I getting ready to paint the top of one and I notice that both Hasegawa and Fujimi are suggesting Gunze Sanyo 315 for the top, but that appears to cross to FS16440 Gloss Gull Gray. What's the best 'match" flat or gloss?

With 1/48 and larger I'd use Gloss with a semi gloss overcoat, to tone it down a little, in 1/72 I use / have used Flat.

Thanks, I'm working in 1/72 so I'll go with flat. But, just to make sure I don't regain my sanity, I see the Airfix instructions for this kit refer to the top colo(u)r as Humbrol 129 -- SATIN Gull Gray!
