Hey people in the aircraft forum!

I have build tanks for some time now, but I want to expand into doing aircrafts to.
I want to do a WWII aircraft and have thought of 4 different ones:
• Hasegawa’s 1/48 JU-87 Stuka.
• Tamiya’s 1/48 P-51D Mustang 8th AF Ace.
• Dragon’s new 1/48 Heinkel He 162 Volksjäger + Mistel bombing system.
• Accurate Miniatures’ 1/48 TBM-3D "Night Fighting Avenger"


I have chosen this tree aircrafts for their relatively simple paintjobs, them being simple aircrafts and nice to start with and maybe to have the possibility of a nice diorama of some sort.
I think they are all nice kits, but which one to pick, I do not know…

I hope to hear from you more experienced aircraft builders.

I would choose...

Tamiya's P-51. Why? Among all those you had listed, it's the easiest. The other three may be accurate, but the number of parts and assembly can make it complicated.

For ease of construction I would recommend the P-51. But you might have problems with an NMF (Natural metal finish) so better choose and early olive drab - neutral grey bird.

Also very good but more complex is the AccMin Avenger.

Hasegawas Ju 87 is also nice but requires some cleanup and alignment work

I would NOT recommend the Mistel as a start. While Dragon (Trimaster) models are nice they require some skills to build them.

Got to agree, a tamiya P-51D, in Neutral Grey and Olive Drab would be a good starting point.

What ever you decide we are willing and able to help. The only dumb question here is the one that you don't ask. So don't be affraid of asking any questions

I agree with Holdfast. You can do a NMF but if you have high standards and are critical of your work, a NMF can be very frustrating to produce. There were some famous OD/gray P-51Ds, Passion Wagon and Bud Anderson's (until it was intentionally stripped of paint after a snowfall).

Or, if you have or buy the decals, the P-51D looks fantastic in RAF green/gray/sky!

In my opinion the best for starting is the Tamiya´s
P 51D. It´s a great kit, very simple to build, with fine and crisp detail and when finished looks great. The canopy is easy to mask and paint, there are a lot of aftermarket decal sets and schemes to choose. It practically builds itself.

WE have spoken !!! haha go for the Mustang it will look great when your done.... tamiya do a C version of the mustang with the malclom canopy ( like a spitfire ) it makes a nice change from the D model with the bubble canopy.. i know i have one

Hi there and welcome , i would say go with the p-51 i've done many of these kits already and they fall together , makings are endless . just like the guys say if you have any questions just ask and they will help out .
