G'day,
It's been several months since I last posted anything in the aircraft forum, but here is part 1 of my 'Death Warmed Up' H.Hurricane of 261 Squadron RAF when used as a Malta Defender. This subject is 95% OOB, I used an Aluminium mesh on the kit radiator faces and have added a resin tailplane with the elevators in the down position.
The progress pix.
Kit cockpit and dry brushed Panel face.
Aluminum mesh radiator panels.
Front view of subject.
Semi plan view of subject
Tailplane of subject in the lowered position.

I'm no expert mate but should the tailplanes both be down? I always thought one would be up and one down...

Isn't this a Mk XII or an NF (Night Fighter) IIB? or a Sea Hurricane MkXI? Anyway it's looking good.
No, it is the ailerons that move in opposite directions the Elevators (the moveable part of the tailplanes moved up and domn in unison and raised or lowered the nose. The ailerons provided roll, Spinning around the axis and the rudder movede the aircraft left or right.
I'm building a Malta Spitfire at the moment so it will be interesting to see what scheme you choose

Hi Murdo!
It's correct on the model. The elevators are moving together up and down. They are supposed to make the aircraft climb or dive. The wing ailerons are moving in the opposing side to make the aircraft roll. The tail rudder makes the aircraft yaw. And the flaps, when down, are meant to give the plane more stability while flying at low speed (take off or landing).
I hope I used the right words (remember I'm French! )
Jean-Luc
EDIT: I see you already answered Mal...

Mal,
No problem, my subject is off the AeroMaster's Part 1 'Defenders of Malta' sheet of the Mk IIb {or even the MK IIb nf / Mk XIIb or ??}, all I can say is the info is limited on the topic of the Mk IIb's in the SAM Data File Book.
As this bird is not fitted with the tropical filter and is in the 'Temperate Land Scheme' of the time, I can only go on the info from the decal sheet.
I do plan on doing a Spitfire Mk V in the two tone blue scheme as well as a Sea Gladiator, from the same Part 1 sheet later in the year.
Rob.
