rear view mirror on spit

Hi all, Just putting the finishing touches to my Spitfire,but I need advice re the rear view mirror,do you paint them or leave them clear.Nice here init

In 1/72 and 1/48 scale I would probably paint it aluminium, any bigger i would try and find something that was reflective ( can't think of anything of the top of my head though
) and replace the clear part with that.

John I normally work in 1/48 and I use the silver reflective insides of potato chip packets for mirrors. Actually one packet of chips will make you a life time of mirrors.
I simply cut the approx shape of the mirror from the chip packet, stick it down and then with a sharp blade trim to shape.

I use Bare Metal foil then apply several layers of Klear over it. works for me

and chips only come in one flavour "spud" but we don't have spuds in handy size packets over here so I think any flavour crisp packet would do? chip packets

Building mostly 48 scale birds myself, I use either the glitter that is used to highlight kids orniments and the likes or just plain BMF, here are 3 pix that show both mirror replications for the Spitfire and Hurricane.
