Hi All!
Now I have joined this group build, my first here on Aeroscale.
I will build a really classy bomber, the Avro Lancaster BI.
My choice is the Tamiya kit in 1/48!
I have always wanted to build a model in 1/48 of the Lanc, It’s one of my favourites among bombers.
The version I want to do is the BI/III, the “classic” one, but the only kit I could find was the motorized “Grand Slam” issue.
I started the build but lost interest quite soon as it was the wrong version (for me!).
A closer inspection of the sprues showed that the only parts missing were the bomb bay, bomb bay doors and the bombs themselves.
All three turrets were supplied; as well as all the clear parts were unpainted (you get the clear parts used in the GS version pre-painted!).
I asked around on several forums and I got lucky!
One guy on Hyperscale was kind enough to send me the parts I needed for the BI, complete with all the bombs!
Next problem to solve was the decals!
All sheets produced for this version was quite old and all sold out.
I was lucky again as a company called Techmod released a really nice set for three Lancasters BI from the 300sqn (Polish).
Out with the parts and the build can begin…
Now I HAVE to build it, more pics to come!
Happy Building!

Hi!
This is a really BIG aircraft so i´ll need a hangar to store it in when completed! :-)
A Lanc is about the size of a B-17 so it will need a large shelf!
Happy Building!

Hi Stefan:
Excellent choice ! Thats the four engined bomber that I like the most. It´s my favourite.
For this campaign first I had choseen this airplane but in 1/72 from Revell, but the kit isn´t good, the molds are old and has a lot of flash and sink marks and a doubtfull fit, so I dicided to move to the Wellington also in 1/72 (Revell), this one looks a much better kit.
I dont have a shelf bigger enough to display this kit in 1/48 so you make me feel healthy jealousy for this one
Can´t wait to see the first pics
A question: does´s Tamiya has released this aircraft in 1/72 ?
Regards
Carlos

Hi Carlos!
Yes, the Lancaster is a truly classic big bomber!
But i cannot choose between the Lanc and the B-17, both are truly classic and very great (and beautiful) aircrafts!
Tamiya´s kit is quite old, originally issued about mid -70´s, and it shows as there´s raised panellines and lots of rivets!
Those aircrafts weren´t as smooth as many believes, so i´ll keep the surface detail as is.
Tamiya have never released a Lancaster in 1/72, but Hasegawa have released one just a year ago!
If you want a good Lancaster kit in 1/72, go for the Hasegawa!
I´ll take pics as soon as i have made any progress in the build!
Happy Building!

Hi all!
Here´s an update on my Lancaster build:
The cockpit is spartan, to say the least!
I´ll be doing some more detailing here!
Only a decal for the instruments are not good enough in this scale!
I haven´t found any better so it´ll have to do.
Same goes for the radio equipment!
This is a spread of parts and sub-assemblies so far.
Just to get a sense of the sieze of a Lanc;
As i dont want to play with the props, i had to modify them with some plastic tube stock.
This is the (left side) front part of the cockpit and the bombadiers compartment.
Painted, drybrushed,chipped and washed.
Well, that´s where the build is tonight!
Please let me know what you think, comments welcomed!
Happy Building!

Hi all!
Well, time for next update on the Lancaster build!
Please let me present "my" Lanc, BH*B, "Jaks-Bus", couldn´t resist that!
Here´s a (lousy ) pic of the decals.
Even though the pic is bad I can assure you that the Techmod decals are in perfect register, opaque and vibrant in color and very crisply printed.They seem to be very thin too.
This is the flight engineer´s panel and the co-pilot´s seat
On the other side the raidio operator have his seat and equipment.
Finally, it was time to close the fuselage!
Considering the age of this kit, the fit was very good indeed!
Even though the fit was good, filler was needed on all seams.
@:) To protect the raised rivet detail and minimize damage, I use wide strips of masking tape while i sand away the filler.
Now i´m almost done with the cockpit, just some small details left!
This is the pilot´s seat, complete with the trim wheel, seat height adjustment lever and seat belts.
Last pic for tonight shows the instrument panel.
That´s all for tonight folks!

Hi All!
It has been quite a long time since the last update, but the wings took a lot of work!
Let´s see;
I was a bit worried about the wing/nacelles fit, but they fitted perfectly!
The enginge cowlings were another matter, worst fit i have ever seen on a Tamiya kit!
I used a LOT of Tamiya filler here, lots of sanding and it came out like this;
Then i sprayed some dark grey to check the seams;
An little "correction" filler and sanding and the assemblies were done;
I did the same on the fuselage seams;
Now i have to repeat on the port wing!
This is a very time-consuming and tedious part, but it must be done!
No short-cuts here!
That´s all for today!
Cheers!
