Hi guys:
I don't know if any of you know me...you usually would see me on the figures end of Armorama where I used to be the managing editor.
Anyway, I came in here many months back with the anticipation of an upcoming flight in a T6 texan. Well, it got put off for awhile, but today it became a reality! All I can say is HOLY COW!!! What a flight! I've earned a whole new level of respect for what our boys of WWII went through. It was a blast and the best part was....I didn't puke!!! lol
I must admit, I did get a knot in my stomach a couple times, but thankfully they stayed in my stomach.
Anyway, I want to build a 1/48 Texan to remember my flight. Right now I have the monogram kit. My question is...do you guys think it lives up to the standards for making a decent replica, or is there something better out there?
Also, I'm going to attempt to make my own decals based on the plane, but was wondering if there were generic decals available for making the numbers so that I wouldn't have to do that part.
Thanks for any help you can offer. Oh, and I would suggest that if any of you can swing the money, you should definitely give this a try. It's a very memorable experience!!!
Thanks guys!
John

Hi John:
I did not build the Monogram kit in 1/48 but here you have some pics of the kit with Argentine markings.
in 1/72 scale the Academy is a very nice KIT, well detailed, with crisp detail, engraved panel lines and the fit is good.
Hope this helps.

Nigel:
Enjoy your flight! I'm sure you'll have a blast. One recommendation if I might....eat lightly before the flight.
Carlos:
Thanks for the pictures. It look like it builds up into a pretty decent plane (I'll need to remove the antennae as they weren't on the plane I flew).
Now if only I can find the appropriate decals I'll be set!

Hi John!
I don't know the Monogram kit but I've built the Revell (ex Ocidental) 1/48 Texan recently. I choosed the French version (of course) for the "Show you Teeth" Campaign but the kit has some markings for an US plane as well.
You can find a review of the Ocidental kit here
Hope this helps...
