This model was started by my father more than 15 years ago and I've been very slowly finishing it up over the last several years. It's painted and marked as the plane he spent quite a lot of time in as the tactical officer during the early 60s. Luckily we found a number of color slides to work from. For those who aren't familiar with the Neptune, it's a maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft (predecessor to the current P-3 Orion). As you can see I still have to finish the canopy and windows, and I have some more finishing work to do on the jet pods.
I know the photo isn't that great, I still haven't gotten my setup working too good yet.

Looks good Grifter! That P2V has always been a fav of mine. In a previous life, I did some of the electronics on the P3C Update II.

Thanks for the compliements.
It was an old Academy kit if I remember right. Hasegawa now has this kit in their line. The intructions call for a very garish high visibility scheme of a search and rescue plane I believe. I scratchbuilt the rocket rails and modified the 5" HVAR rockets from an Airfix Skyraider.

Looked real nice! Grifter.

This plane was also used by the ROC airforce back in the 50s and 60s for low level recon into Red China, all painted black I think. Do you know the difference between this one and the recon version?

If so I like to get my hand on one, and build one myself....

Very nice work.

I've never seen a recon version of a Neptune so I can't comment with any authority. Squadron used to have a book on them in the "In Action" series which may help if you can find it....I never did. I'd imagine the exterior wasn't much different besides maybe camera windows somewhere. Perhaps in the bomb bay behind the radome.....
