Hi guys. Just wanted to post some update pics of the Skyraider build. Camo colors were applied over a preshade of the panel lines. First time doing this, hope it came out nice and subtle, I don't think it stands out too much. Started painting the Mk82s from Hasegawa. I have to put the yellow stripes on the bombs with fuse extenders on yet. I will keep you updated, thanks for looking, Wingman out.

Hi Michael

Great to see an update on your SPAD - it's looking just as superb as I'd expected! I hope you're keeping notes for when I come knocking for a Feature!

All the best

Howdy fellas,

Nice job on the preshading IMHO...not overly done {as some insist on doing} and pretty much evenly balanced all around.....nice

Always liked the Sandy...I swear, if the wings had been any longer than they were, the bloody designers would have added 3 more hardpoints per wing!!

Keep up the dandy work there wingman.

Hi again Michael

Reading your post again, I'm just amazed you're a Pre-Shading Virgin! And now left guessing how you got your superb earlier results...

I have to admit, I'm coming at this from the point of view of a Shading Glutton! I Pre-Shade and Post-Shade... plus I've probably invented some intermediate stages for messing up my paintwork!

All the best

Hi Gordon. This Sandy is going to be loaded for bear when she's done. I love all the attack planes. The Stuka[my favorite], Thunderbolt, Typhoon, IL2 Sturmovik. Anyone else list some more, thanks for looking, Wingman out.

Hi again Rowan. Pre-shade virgin[hahahahahaha]. I will admit I was nervous when starting to apply the camo colors. I was afraid the paint might spit or me holding the airbrush to long in one spot. I went over the whole thing with a light coat of the same color to even everything out. I think tonght I will mask and paint the recess's where the dive brakes are. Thanks for looking, Wingman out.

Howdy again wingman

I was going to post some dandy and up close cockpit pics for you to aid in your painting chores, but it looks like you've already passed that point sooo......never mind

If I may ask, do you have a particular aircraft you have in mind for your final incarnation? I think you already mentioned a camo pattern, so I am assuming you have the 'Nam in mind?.....any particular bird from that era?

And you also said you were going to really "load" your Spad....I don't suppose you have a Pave Pat in mind do you?

Hi Gordon. Thanks anyway for the cockpit pics. The Spad I am building will represent an aircraft flown by LCDR "Speed" Ritzman during the summer of 1966, VA-165, "Boomers". U.S.S. Intrepid. The aircraft is called, "Puff the Magic Dragon". The camo pattern is light gray over white. The decals are from Aeromaster#48-543. What is a "Pave Pat"?Thanks again for looking, WIngman out.

Thanks Jan. I just applied ModelMaster chromesilver to the leading edge of the engine cowl. The leading edges of the wings and tailplanes get that too. More pics will be coming, thanks for looking, Wingman out.

"..... What is a "Pave Pat"?Thanks again for looking, WIngman out. ....."

Howdy wingman,

The "Pave Pat" to which I am referring was a somewhat experimental piece of ordinance that was carried on the inboard hardpoint of the A-1 Skyraider. It was designated an FAE weapon, which translates to Fuel Air Explosive.
Here's a pic.....

It is the rather large, pointed, salt shaker looking thing suspended from the inboard hardpoint of the starboard wing.
The 'Pave Pat' of the era came in two basic configurations. The first version came filled with Propane, a nasty airbourne ingredient to say the least....in the second version of this FAE weapon {the Pave Pat 2} the powers-that-be decided to switch to a new ingredient, they used Ethylene Oxide, a hazardous material to be sure.....

hth.

Yes very nicely done Michael, I have one of these in my stash, so I'm very interested in this and I will be looking in regularly
Tread, any chance of having the pics in the reference gallery? I will be very interested in any that you have
I've heard about the "Pave Pat", although I didn't know that that was what it was called. Loaded with that it would be loaded for bear but T-Rex

Howdy Mal,

I would be more than happy to place them in the appropriate gallery. They are for the most part reference pics I accumulated for my own Spad undertaking.....if you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction {ie link if possible} I will endeavour to do my best.

But, be warned, a good portion of them are somewhat boring pics such as this.....

This one was intended for some engine detailing.
