Do you know of any planes that had something like a dazzle camoflauge scheme like on ww1 ships, maybe some inexpensive kits?

-Thanks

The Felixstowe F2A is probably the best known but I seen a DH-4 in a stange curved version of splinter. I think a Sopwith Camel may also have been painted with chord-wise stripes across the wings. In 1928-30 the Polish Air Force experimented with some similar types of schemes on Breguet XIXB2 biplanes. In WW II a P-51 was painted in a splinter scheme at, I think, Eglin Field.

Hi again William!

it is written beside the pictures:
1- Brewster F2A-2 "Buffalo"
2- Northrop BT-1
3- Vought SB2U-2 "Vindicator"
4- Douglas TBD-1 "Devastator"

In what scale do you want to build your models? 1/72 or 1/48?
I think I have better pictures somewhere in a magazine. Maybe even profiles!

Hi again William!

I don't think any of the models is available in bigger scales than 1/48 apart from the "Buffalo".
A "Devastator" is made by Monogram in 1/48 (old kit)
A "Vindicator" is made by Accurate Miniature in 1/48 (recent kit)
A "Buffalo" is available by Tamiya (old kit), Classic Airframes (F2A-1, new short run kit) and Special Hobby (F2A-1 and 3, new short run kit) in 1/48 scale.
Don't ask me for the Northrop!

I'm afraid only the new Special Hobby 1/32 F2A-2 is big enough for you... but it may not match your "inexpensive" criteria...

There was an article with colour drawings of the Buffalo in an issue of SAMI. I`ll see if I can find which issue, I do have a copy somewhere.

Some more from the same source...

These are interpretations based on pictures of the planes on the ground. So they can't be considered as 100% accurate. But I think they give a good idea of the Barclay experimental paintschemes.

Aero Journal, a French magazine wich unfortunately doesn't exists anymore. They used to publish profils of aircraft with unusual paintschemes at the end of each issue. Here are some more...

And if you don't fear the bigger models you can always build a B-24 or B-17 Assembly Ship .

Photos exist of the F2A-1 and TBD-1 in the 'McClelland Barclay Schemes';

These came from http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/ac-usn22/f-types/f2a-cam.htm

It looks as though these schemes were a temporary rush job, and weathered fairly quickly.

Hi Gordon!

Wich Japanese bomber If you mean the white and red plane, it's a German Heinkel He 70 used during the Spanish civil war! Were are the Japanese? :-)

Jean-Luc

P.S. Some source believe it was in fact white and blue...
