Hi,
After standing in the cold and rain at Longleat all day on saturday hoping to see an air race which never materialised I though that I may stay home and make a model of one of these aircraft.
Does anyone know where I can get hold of an Extra 300 or Edge 540 kit?
Dave

Hi Dave
So the weather messed up your weekend too! I was outside on work and got soaked and chilled to the bone.
I've never come across static models of these, but there are plenty of flying scale links if you do a Google search. It might be feasable to scale things down and scratch-build - the shapes look nice and simple. You'd have fun with the colour schemes though - a big job printing your own decals...
All the best

Cheers for that Rowan,
I think that scratchbuilding a whole kit may be a bit beyond my abilities at the moment, maybe I will come back to this one later.
I do like the idea of printing my own decals though, how would you go about this? I have Photoshop btw, I assume you need something like that.

Hi Dave
I reviewed two systems a while ago. The water-slide decals turned out really pretty good - you just need to watch out for translucency, because inkjets can't print white. If you use something like an ALPs printer (hot wax - I think) you can print white too, but I've no experience of that.

Hi Dave
there must be a kit in 1/72 by "Classic Plane" (Extra 300)
Here are some pix of a model in a large scale : Extra 300 Red Bull
Furthermore if you are just after Red Bull a/c maybe try Revell (Germany), they had a special issue of their 1/48 B-25 with Red Bull markings. this year they'll have a F4U-4
best wishes
Steffen

Cheers Steffan,
Thanks for the link, I am sure that the instructions are very thorough, but I cannot read German ! Anything unusual in the construction I may need to know ?
The Classic Plane site was in English though, do you have any experience of this shop, are they any good?

Hi Dave
well, I am not going to translate the whole article, but he writes about some problems:
---> You need good reference material
Of interest for you might be that he states an american online build of a 1/32 Extra 300 as a reference for solving a problem (he did not know where to put a part) unfortunately there is no link given...
HTH
cheers

- instructions are worthless
- Cockpit interior is partly wrong
- decals do not fit propely
