Hi All!
Finally, i have finished a kit!
This is my Academy 1/48 Lavochkin La-7, built mostly OOB with seatbelts made of tape.
i don´t like the decals from Academy so I used decals from Aero Master sheet 48-534, "Falcons of the Red Star Pt.III".
I made the aircraft flown by P.M. Bojkov over the Czech Republic during spring of 1945.
This was a very nice and easy build, fit was between good to excellent!
I used paints from White Ensign´s WWII Russian/Soviet range, and airbrushed the cammo freehand to get the soft demarcations.
I used a "sluge-wash" (tamiya acrylics, detergent and water), but i might have gone a bit too far!
Well, here she is;
Why isn´t there any Russian WWII / Modern Discussion group?
Please let me know what you think!
Cheers!
Stefan E

Hi Stefan!
It seems the Academy La-7 is not that bad after all!
You made a good job but I would add some pastels to the exhaust stains. They look to "greasy" in my opinion. It also seems the dragon head decal needs some touch ups as it broke apart. I would also add some pastels on the underside and the tyres.
Other than that it's a fine looking model...

Hi Jean-Luc!
Thanks for the feedback!
I have fixed the broken decal, I didn´t see that until you told me!
I´m not happy with the exhaust staining myself, they just don´t look right close up.
Well, maybe I can call this a "three-footer"? :-)
Next time I will try some pastels, wich I have never used but I´ll give it a go anyway.
Pictures and other eyes are always helpful as you don´t see some mistakes yourself!
You can go blind on your own faults! :-)
Janne; Kul att du gillade den! (Janne; glad you liked it!)
När får vi se något av dina alster? (When can we see any of your models?)
Cheers to You Both!

Hi Stefan
Nice build! - and it's great to see more and more VVS models making an appearance these days.
I'd go along with what Jean-Luc's recommended - some pastels will really help pull everything together. And, so long as you can mask the canopy safely, perhaps a light matt-coat to take a bit of the shine off to go with the overall weathered look.
Don't be unfair on youself - that's a lot better than a 3-footer!
All the best

Working on it Stefan....pain in the to have to buy everything new again...
brushes, air brush, paint.....you name it. But, I've found my first "victim" though, Revell PBY 5-A, will do it as a "Black Cat". Miiight even do a -5 at the same time as a "dumbo". You guys will be the first to know when I start my "rehabilitation".....lol!
Oooh.... btw, both in the 1/48 scale.

Hallo Stefan,
A fine model. The La-5 & -7, the only VVS fighters that appeal to me. From the top the look like "I-16 Rata all grown up".
For my $$ the VVS had some of the prettiest camouflage of the war. You have captured this.
I do not think you over sludged it. One thing I think is missing--the VVS flew from sod fields most of the time. Think mud / dirt spattering the underside of the wing behind the wheels. Take a stiff bristle brush, dip it in dirt colored paint, pull back on the bristles and let them flick the paint behind the wheels.
Merlin and Jean-Luc have provided all the other advice I would offer.
Looking forward to seeing your next model!

Looks great Stefan!
I bought that kit a few months ago but haven't had the time to even open the box yet. You've done a really beautiful job with this one. I too love the camo scheme and the underside blue really sets it off.
