Setting here preparing to build more "clutter" for my modelling room, I was wondering what other do with their "vintage" models. This model has been setting around since the early 1970's, built before some of our members were.
Note the missing tail wheel. The canopy is "fogged" because "in those days", with the lack of cockpit detail, I just dull coated over the canopy.

I still have the Box Art.

and the instructions. Why ? I don't know.

Here is a photo of some of it's contemporaries

Just can't seem to bring myself to the point of throwing them away, even if they aren't that good.

So the question is:

What do you do with your "vintage" models ?

A rare few of mine have gone that way, mostly the larger ones :-)

I have to admit I bin all my kits after they are built. The only models that are kept are the ones I build for the wife (figurines and busts) which are in the living room.

There is my first model in my Mothers jewelry box. Skyray I think. All those before 1990 are sold to a wargame club...Of these (1/72 WWI kits) 200 built from 1972 to 1989 I am betting there is one or two of these still flying around out there with a stick up its tail.

Here are the 42 allies after about 1977.

Here are the 63 Central powers same date.

With just 3 curio cabinets and 2 wall shelves, I'm pressed for display space, (also limits the sizes I model) I have no vintage ones as they were either destroyed in a flood, or the ones that were upstairs undamaged, were sold off when I relocated.

As for binning, yep, done that also.

Hi!

Well, as i never could bring me to bin any model during the years, I still have some "survivors"!

One of my very first models, Airfix Fiat G91;

Airfix Messerschmitt Me262 ;

Airfix Spitfire MkIX;

Airfix SK61 Trainer;

Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9;

Airfix BAC Strikemaster;

This one´s for you Stephen!
Airfix Sopwith Pup;

Junkers Ju-87 Stuka

All these kits are in 1/72 scale (Except the Stuka, that´s 1/24) and built between 1970 and 1976, when I was 12 - 16 years old.

I still have a big box full of other models, that have disintegrated to kits again.

My old cat loved to sleep in that box, found out that a bit too late!
But i just can´t throw them away!

Oh, those sweet memories!

Cheers!

lovely thread - great to see these 'old' pics ...but it would be a shame to bin all these 'antiques' - after all a large of part of the attraction of this hobby - certainly for 'returnees' - is the nostaligia aspect...a return to child hood..and they do seem to sell well on Ebay

What was built prior to 1970 was either given to my nephew or given to a friend, [made the transition into R/C planes in 1970 and returned to plastic models in 1990], what has been built from my return into the realm of plastic, is displayed at home, on loan to a Museum, on loan to the RAAF OTS or dispalyed in a shop.

Never could bin a {Plastic} model, but have had many fatials with the R/C birds.
