Hi guys,

I need to get some paints to paint luftwaffe figures but I need to know which colors.I'm going to get some Mr Color Lacquer paints.Do you guys know what paints I need.I got the luftwaffe pilots and ground crew from preiser. Here's a photo:

It would be nice if you could tell me what specific colors those are.Doesn't have to be in Mr Color it would be nice if they were but it's ok I'll just look the equivalent up for Mr Color.
Thanks in advance,

Daniel

For Uniforms such as in the second photo, I use MM (Testor's) German Uniform FeldGrau 2014 -- To my eye the closest Mr. Color is Gray 60 or 305 ? For other figures I use various shades of gray and "calibrated eye-ball matching". Silly I know, but I always keep a variety of grays on hand from very light to very dark shades.

P.S. - Just for fun and a touch of realism, remember they won't all necessarily be exactly the same color.

Hi Daniel,

LW (Luftwaffe) issued many uniforms for the aircrews.

LW did not use Field Gray (Feldgrau). They used Feldblau (Field Blue--a bit bluer than Navy Blue): Pix of LW dress and flight uniform

Pilots often flew in their various leather and cloth jackets, and were known to fly in their regular uniforms: http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/abp , http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/00517_G,

Flightsuits were one-piece, a tan (though none ever really seem ‘tan’ by my definition--most seem a dark, or brownish, tan. Dirt, grime?) for summer: http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/fm3 , http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/anv, http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/Unswehrbk3

light brown for winter. http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/aer ,

Several types here: http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe?page=5 , http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/agl

Ground crew, “Black Birds”, wore a black utility uniform: http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/ahb Some utilities seemed to be a gray color, others a tanish-brownish. http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/ano

In the Mediterranean there seems to have been lightweight tan uniforms for all: http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/anx, http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-luftwaffe/any,
