Wow... no posts (other than the ones I moved from General Aircraft) since we did the forum additions. Does this mean we need to recruit more modern builders of aircraft?? Where are you guys?? Hellooooo? :-)

Oh come on I know Hyperscale and ARC are way busier than this site esepcially for modern, you have to admit it's hard to keep up with all the posts flying around over there. Why not come over here and take a break from the fast lane? We promise we won't bite.

Cheers,
Jim

Well, traditionally I'm a 1:48 WWII builder but I have built a 1:48 FGR.2 in British Grey/Green camo (for my dad who worked on them). I have been looking at doing a 1:72 modern jet - I just can't decide which one!

What would you recomend for ease of build AND detail? It has to be one of the Modern US types - F-14,15,16 or F/A-18 as the others don't do much for me at the moment. I spent 10 years in the RAF and whilst I never worked them on a regular basis I cant stand Tornado's!

I suggest the Belgian FA-71 F-16
It's 1/48 but not really big

Belgium had also a nice one with a Devil on it's tail
this one

I'm of to check out the decal manufacturers.........

A very good question, where are the modern aircraft builders ? I must admit, personally, of the hundreds of aircraft kits in my stash, only 2 fit into this category, and they are on a very low priority to build.

Well, that was quick - it appears Zotz decals do the Devil (23Sqn Deactivation) in 1:32, 1:48 and 1:72. Its for an F-16A.

Oh yes, they also do the Tiger but a different style.

yup it's an F16AM it's from the 5Oth anniversary of 23Sqn. FA-61 is just the regular F-16 scheme with a black tail and Devil paintjob
Unfortunatly it is now "cut in pieces" and stored at the weelde storage.
If you want you can buy a cockpit there
did you mean this other tiger?

Belgian F-16's had many and nice painted tails, but FA-71 is one of the nicest

This one is nice too

WOW!!! That is some awesome paintjobs! F-16 is a great fighter but I have to say that I lean more towards the F-18. You don't by any chance have any cool paintjobs of them??

I am building modern stuff but my posts are currently limited to giving advice (the few times that I am able to) and asking for help (most of my posts).

But there is progress on the workbench and I hope to be able to show some modern stuff in the not so distant future.

I plan to start with some TIger Meet F-16's pretty soon. NOt really a plane builder but for some reason, these planes really got me. Hope to be able to show some in the next few months.

I myself have many projects going on, all at the same time. But I did have to lay down the hobby knife down the last month in a half due to some on going here and there. I have plans on returning back to these projects by the weekend or Monday the latest. Here's whats on the bench,

1/48 Hasegawa SH-3H Seaking out of box with some little scratch building

1/35 Academy Pave Hawk with a ton of scratch building

1/35 Academy Black Hawk Grenada version

1/35 Academy UH-1C Huey with detailed engine, cockpit and cargo area

1/32 Revell UH-1H Air Mobile Huey from the 42nd Division (Rainbow) 79-85 with scratch built exterior and interior

1/35 Panda UH-1N Marine Huey with scratch built exterior and interior

1/32 Revell AH-64 Apache using Eduard photo etch and Verlindens PE/Resin set

1/48 MH-53J Pave Hawk, using Revell's CH-53 CS/G kit and applying Cobra Companys resin conversion set.

1/35 Panda CH-47D Chinook, not really started yet...but did look it over. I plan on getting the new Eduard photo etch interior sets.

My chosen subject has always been modern fighter jets, the usual suspects mainly, F14/15/16/18. Although in my stash i have trumpeters Flanker and Fulcrum and a classic in Airfix's monster harrier. My 1/32 F15C is work in progress and photos of progress are in the Pre flight check forum.

Hejsan Janne!

How about this Canadian F-18, Academy 1/32;

For more colorful F-18, Look at Leading Edge;

http://www.lemdecal.com/CATALOG.html

Other modern aircrafts on my shelves;

Ekranoplan A-90 Orjonlok and CF-188 Hornet, both in 1/144;

F-14A Tomcat, Revell 1/144;

JAS-39 Gripen, Revell 1/32;

A-4E Skyhawk, Hasegawa 1/48;

F-4J Phantom II, Hasegawa 1/48;

F-8E Crusader, Revell/Monogram 1/48;

On the workbench at this moment;

F-14A Tomcat, Tamiya 1/32
A-7E Corsair II, Trumpeter 1/32
SH-3H Seaking Helikopter, Revell (Hase) 1/48
A-4B Skyhawk, Hasegawa 1/48
Buccaneer, Airfix 1/48
Kiowa helicopter, Academy 1/35

About 1/3rd of my stash is in this category, but I tend to choose mostly from the other 2/3rds!

I promise, there´ll be more from me in this category in the future!

Cheers!

Steffen,

The F-4 is a beauty - is that the kit decals on it?

If not, can you confirm its VMFA-451 - I cant quite make it out.

Hi Lee!

No worry ´bout the misspelling!

Glad You liked my F-4J!

As you can guess from my "callname" here, the Phantom II is one of my favourite aircrafts!

You´re right about the markings, It´s a VMFA-451 “Warlords” Bicentennial bird aboard USS Forrestal 1976.
Decals from Eagle Strike sheet 48112 and the kit is a Hasegawa 1/48 F-4J PhantomII.

Other markings waiting are Jolly Rogers, Sundowners, Death Angels, Screaming Eagles to name a few.
I have a plan to build (at least) one of each mark in 1/48.

Phantoms Forever!

Cheers!

Hejsan hoppsan Stefan!!

Lovely looking birds you got there. F4 Phantom is a favourite of mine too.
Espescially the Phantoms from VF-51 Screamimg Eagles and VF-111 Sundowners from the 72-73 Vietnam cruise on USS Coral Sea CV-43.

VF-51 Screaming Eagles

Yep, I love 'em too. My dad spent 15 years in the RAF (Germany and UK) working them - he even had a boat on the Thames called Phantom Phixer!

My first posting was RAF Wildenrath in 1990 - 56 Sqn and 74 Sqn - Phantoms :-) :-) :-)

I didn't get to work them much as I was on the 'Visiting Aircraft' section. I did get to play with F-16's 15's, CF-18's and even Mig-29's amongst others so I can't complain.

In fact, here's me in a Czech Mig-29 (I'm not so attractive these days)

I put out my one and only aircraft fire on a 92 Sqn Phantom though........

Regards,

Lee

Jan,

I only posted that pick to remind myself I could fit in a Mig-29 cockpit once upon a time - it would be a squeeze now!

Too many 'Beer calls'.......
