In the later stages of the war did JG 1 happen to be operating any Me-109 G-10's?

Hi Chip

According to Kagero's book on JG 1 1944-45, they did; photo captions mention Uffz. Lehmann's "White 9" and Lt. Hubert Heckmann's "White 13" - both Bf 109 G-10/ASs of 9./JG 1. Perhaps someone has more info to back up or refute the captions.

Hope this helps

Rowan

Well I just got done decaling a 109G-10 in "White 3", with a red tailband. It kind of is supposed to be a late war "unit unknown" aircraft, but looking more into it I noticed that JG1 had a red tailband on their 190s (I am pretty sure) so that got me to thinking that the 109 that I just finished decaling would make a good Operation Bodenplatte aircraft.

Thanks once again,

Hi Chip

Well, i do not like those question too much .. they seem short but require some research for a simple yes or no .. Please excuse that I overemphasize the following a bit, but it might help others to find information for their projects.

Anyway. For every question in such direction I recomment Michael Holms The Luftwaffe, 1933-45 ... there is A LOT of information.

In this case I chose: air units--->single engined fighters-->JG1 and you get here http://www.ww2.dk/air/jagd/jg1.htm with a lot of useful information (depending on what you are looking for)

on the bottom of the page you'll find links to the "Flugzeugbestand und Bewegungsmeldungen" here you find what and how much aircraft the unit had at each month and what happened to them. You can see here that only III. Gruppe had Bf 109 at the end of 1944 ... and only 2 G-10. ... but at least it is possible that there was a white 3 at Bodeplatte ..

White numbers indicate 9. Staffel. I am not sure what 3rd group sign the III.JG1 used, but I think it was a vertical bar in Staffelfarbe (squadron colour) In the loss list for Bodenplatte (Manhro/Pütz "Bodenplatte") are 2 Bf 109G-14/AS which look pretty similar to the G-10 .. one was numbered "white 19" ..

BTW I could not find photos in Mombeek ("Reichsverteidigung") and Prien ("Jagdgeschwader 1 und 11") .. though I must say it was only a quick search under the 1.1.45 date (dito Bodenplatte)

For a period of time JG 300 also operated the red fuselage band, so there is also the possiblitiy your c&m is form JG 300. I am sorry that I cannot give you the timeframe, when JG 300 changed to blue-white-blue (would have to look for that) .. could be well before 01.01.1945 and JG 300 did not take part in Bodenplatte

I do not know if that helps you ..

best wishes

Steffen
