I working on building a 1/35 Huey from the 1990's Desert Storm era. Would any of these Hueys be likely to have a .50 cal MG instead of the normal M-60??
Also, what company produces the best .50 cal MG's??
Thanks for any help!

but some guys in other area's of the AO might have seen some. couldnt tell ya though

Some years ago, I did a number of Huey and Cobra variants from Vietnam through Desert Storm. I don't remember seeing any .50's on the Hueys in any references.

Working on them for ten years, I haven't seen a .50 mounted on them.

Not the norm, but Squadron's "Huey in Action" has a couple of pics with the door mounted M2 during VN. Quite a variety of weapons in the doors actually.
You've got to remember that the M2 weighs 82 (?) lbs without the mount and ammo. It's no lightweight.

Never saw "ma duce" on a Huey. Weighs too much, recoils too much, ammo is heavy and takes up too much room. Stick with the M-60's. Even the Blackhawks mount .30cal mini guns not 50's for the same reason.

Yep, I always thought that firing the M2 first thing in the morning was the best way to perk you right the hell up for the rest of the day! OOH-RAH!
I've only fired it from the 113 and (mostly) ground mount. Somethin' about rockin' that baby off a track is enough to give you a wood!
The UH-60 has the option of a three-barrel 50 cal, but I've never seen that other than in pictures. Oh My, be still my heart!
You've got me stumped on the movie, but I'd be more than happy to up the ante. It's been such a long time....

I stand corrected. From UH-1 Huey in Action: XM-59 (AN-M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun)
A door gun system used on Huey slicks, the XM-59 is essentially the XM-23 adapted for use with the .50 caliber machine gun which attaches to the XM-23 base tube assembly. Features of the kit include an ammunition box, link receptacle, and brass deflector. The XM-59 designation uses an M600 on the opposite side. The .50 caliber can fire 700 spin at a range of 3,000 meters.
The one picture I found was a D model in 1967 tricked out for night ops with what was described as a "lightning bug" light system. The .50 had an air cooled barrel.

Those photos of the UH-1N look mean. That's a heavy gun though. Hey Rattler, triva, Green Berets or Siege of Firebase Gloria come to mind on reference to 50's . I'm doing the Panda UH-1D, from Apocalypse Now. Col. Kilgore's ship complete with surf boards and crew.

I'm no Huey nor a .50 caliber expert, but I fired quite some .50 rounds during my army days...... therefore I fully second this statement
I think the recoil's the killer...... it would shake the bird apart....

You might want to try looking at kits for Older Russian tanks. Some of their tanks were fitted with spot lights for night firing.
