Hi there everyone.
This is Tamiya's F4U1-A 1/48.
I plan on building this with the wings in the folded position. I think it will come out looking cool this way.
Anyway, here is where I stand.
Engine has been completed. Testors aluminum, then covere with Tamiya smoke, and a wash of burnt umber.
Here are some shots of the pit.
Interior and Wheelwells. Again with the burnt umber wash.
As always all your comments good or bad are more than welcome.
Thanks for looking
Ted

Looks pretty good! I look forward to seeing how it goes for you.
I have the same kit in my stash, (along with resin engine, cockpit and gunbay for it), and hope to get into working on it sometime in the new year.

Hi Ted!
That Corsair looks really good!
Can´t find anything bad to say about It.....
I have several of these In my stash, Your model makes me wanna start one today! :-)
It´s very easy to get addicted to Tamiya kits!
Now and then I throw in a limited run kit , just so I don´t get too spoiled! :-) :-) :-)
Tamiya makes some of the best kits around, period!
Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words Stefan.
I can't agree with you more about Tamiya kits. They do come out great, and it is very easy to get spoiled by them.
This was a great kit to build, and I look forward to seeing yours when you build them. I have the Revell offering and the Trump kit as well, one of these I will be attempting to build with some aftermarket stuff ( cockpit & gun bays) in order to bring some added dimension to the kit.
Again thanks for looking.

Great work. I have the same kit in my stash and am planning on displaying it on a section of carrier deck. I hope mine turns out somewhere near as good as yours. Well done.

Hi Ted,
I noticed you posted this model a few months ago and I just now found it. Excellent job! A couple of critique points (Not that I could do any better!):
1. The upper side paint looks like it has a rough texture. If you were using an airbrush, maybe trying to thin the paint out more would cure that?
2. The weapons stains show obvious airbrush application. I found spraying away from the wing and then applying the paint helps eliminate this.
Again, I'm a trillion miles (or kilometers) from being called proficient at models and that is why I post pics of my planes here, because I want people to point out things I may have missed.
I look forward to your next!
-Derek

Hi, ted a suggestion for staining your aircraft is to use oils. I had the same issue with too much airpressure causing splatter when I started spraying the guns and exhausts. Oils can look bad when you start but their working time (several Hours) means you can finesse and blend them with the finish of the bird. Here's a pic of my Airacobra. Oils were used for the staining.
The oils added much more depth than I thought. I can't wait to use them on my Skyraider.
One last note is search your references Google helps me an unmeasurable amount. They can really help when it comes to building better finishes on your kits. Most corsairs had a soft demarkations between the colors. Here is an example of what talking about.
Otherwise good job and keep up the good work.

Question -
What did you use to simulate the white (medical) tape used in front of the cockpit?
Thanks,
Whiskey6 (Dave)
