Hi all,
I just picked up a 1/24 Airfix Hurricane and wanted to do it up as a RCAF bird. My grandfather was an American flying for the RCAF during 39-41, but the unit and airfield have been lost over the years, we just know he flew out of Scotland. Also some guidance as to what AM decals are available would be of a great help.
Thanks in advance!

It's quite likely that it was 401 Squadron. After the Battle of Britain, they moved to Prestwick, in October, 1940. Codes were YO-, and examples are P3080 YO-C, P3872 YO-V, P3873 YO-R, V6609 YO-X, with some Canadian-built, e.g. 313 YO-L, 315 YO-M, 319 YO-N. From the single photo, that I have, codes appear to be the standard grey, with black spinner, and no tail band.

During the Battle of Britain 401 Squadron were called 1 Squadron RCAF. For a while they joined 303 (Polish) Squadron at Northolt. Sometimes 303 had to borrow an aircraft from (40)1. These are two of them.
On the 7th September 1940 F/O Henneberg borrowed V6605 for a few hours and brought down a Me 109 with it.
This is a Mk IIA Z3658 YO.N at Digby 24th July 1941

Gentlemen,
Thank you so mcuh for the info. I just sent off an email to the RCAF archive department. I hope they will be able to provide some more details. The next step is to buy or make up decals!
