Italeri''s first release of a 1/48 scale Falco slipped through the Reviews net, but here''s a look at the follow-up, which includes a very neat bonus in the form of a reference manual.

Nice review Rowan! I'm thinking of buying the CR.42 and send it to one of my friends as x-mas present, since the Royal Swedish Airforce flew them.
Which is the better one to buy?

Hi Jan
If you want Swedish markings you'll have to go with the Classic Airframes export version http://www.classicairframes.com/catalogue.htm. Which is the better kit? CA's definitely has a better cockpit and fabric-effect, but Italeri's kit has the wing-root inlets that CA missed and is easier to build - plus it has the reference book included. I'll have to wait for more evidence before making a call on which is most accurate kit in terms of dimensions and the question of dihedral...
All the best

Janne, go for the Italeri kit!
It´s a beauty and I can only agree with Rowan, It´s a bargain for the price asked.
I almost bought the 1/72 kit, just to get that reference book, now I will buy my second 1/48th Falco instead.
You can buy Swedish decals from Meteor, they have the whole range from Flying Colors!
There´s also a wonderful etched set from Eduard for the CR42.
Even with these additions you´ll get away cheaper and with a better model in the end, AND you´ll get that reference book too!
This kit is also a much more trouble-free and easier build then the CA kit, wich have some fit issues in the engine installation.
Cheers!

The Swedish falco
At last we can build that plane without CA. I´ll just recommend the Italeri, there all bit fits in to the fuselage, all panel lines in place and so on. It´s a gem.
Here is mine
If you need the references on the only Swedish machine remaining here it is
http://www.larsqvarfordt.fotopic.net/c126664.html
Now you can bost up the Italeri with Etch from Edurds, when I build this I got to take the etch from that CA kit. The decals is a ALP sheet from Ben mik decals. I think there is some left. Check with Max at the Rebell. The online store
