Two part question:
1) When VF-84 flew the F-8 did they have the skull and crossbones anywhere on the plane? If so, where? If any one has any pics of this they would be GREATLY appreciated.
2) Does the new Hasegawa F-8 have markings for VF-84? If not, does anyone make them?
Thanks,

1) In April, 1960, VF-84 began painting the Skull & Bones on their F8's. I'm still looking for pics, cause I don't know the placement.
2) I have not seen any VF-84 decals for F-8's yet.

I have the new HASAGAWA kit and it does not have VF-84 decals, but what they come with are great aircraft markings. I'd check companies like Eaglestrike, aeromaster, and Super scale they did alot of decals for the monogram kit!!! Also monogram is now releasing their old decal sheets as AM stuff so you might also have luck there!!! good hunting stug

I'll save you some time. I checked Eagle Strike and Aeromaster. No decals from them.

Once upon a time I believe either superscale or aeromaster made a set. It had a lot of flames on it. Very colorful. I built that version and I'm pretty sure it was VF-84, though it was the C model that carries those markings (I put them on a E anyway). That kits is long gone so I can't confirm it for you....

Cutting Edge now offer VF-84 decals for F-8C Crusader (http://www.kitreview.com/reviews/f8decalpreviewbg_1.htm) but these are from 1959, so they do not have skull&bones yet...

Yes, Cutting Edge Has 5 new sets of F-8 Markings, including VF-84 with a cool hot rod style flame on the nose. They also have a resin ejection seat and a conversion for the nose to an A,B,C,D,H,K,L variant. (which they donated which they donated to the club for our contest on Sunday. Thanks, Cutting Edge. )

Nimitz fan, Do the decals have the skull and crossbones on them????? i'd like to know as i have an F-4J and a F-14A with VF-84 markings as well. the 1/48th f8 will look funny next to 2 big 1/32nd kit but the vf-84 markings will tie them all together. stug

Negative, it has the cool flames on the fuselage but no skull and crossbones. I might add some from some other sets to mine.

I compared Hasegawa F-8E 1/48 model and Revell of Germany (reboxed old
Revell/Monogram kit with new decals) one today and I noticed that both kits
include markings for the same aircraft: VF-194 CVW-19 commander aircraft.
Both decal sheets are very good quality, but RoG decals seem a bit thinner.
I want to build model of this particular aircraft as it is really colorful,
but now I have a dilemma: Hasegawa and RoG decals differ significantly in
most noticeable places.
There are five large stripes/rays on the fin of the plane - each in
different color (see a box art of RoG kit here:
http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=RG4547). Four of colors are the
same in both decal sets, but middle stripe is black on Revell decal and
green on the Hasegawa sheet... Emblem of CVW-19 on the fin root is
significantly different too. Also the carrier, NAVY and unit markings are
different - significantly larger lettering on Hasegawa sheet.
Does anyone have any pictures of this particular plane and can share them
with me? Or maybe you just know who has it right, Hasegawa or RoG?...
