Sorry fellas, but I couldn't find the post where I asked this before. The "My Forum Posts" didn't work properly. Anyhoo, which is the better buy of these two birds? Tamiya's Fw 190D-9 "JV-44" or Italeri's D-9 both in 1/48? Does this D-9 have the same problem as Tamiya's earlier kit where they had the wing from the D-11, or did they correct their mistake on this one?

Sorry for the trouble fellas..

Hi Jan

The JV 44 issue has the corrected wing (AFAIK ---I do not have it) I personally like the Trimaster/Dragon/Revell/Italeri/... kit better, but the later the issue the more you probably have to cope with flash and other mold imperfections ...

so you want

A. an easy build and do not care too much about accuracy --> go Tamiya
B: more ellbow grease and better accuracy --->go DML and siblings BTW Revell did the former etched parts in plastic, which i like better (I think Italeri has them too)

HTH

cheers

There's something not quite right about the Tamiya D-9; for one thing the Tamiya spinner is too thin and pointed, the windscreen side panels are too long, and something about the overall shape, especially around the forward cowlings, isn't quite right.
Okay the Trimaster/Dragon/Italeri kitset is harder to build (the main priorities are to reinforce the wingroots [I use short stubs of sprue tree] and widen the fuselage below the cockpit with another length of sprue so that the large gap along the wingroots is properly closed - using the cockpit alone as a wedge may or may not work.), but the end result is a superior model.
It's also worthwhile to shorten the undercarriage oleos - the 190 didn't sit as high as Italeri's.

Enjoy the build.

I built the two kits (Tamiya & Italeri) and the Italeri is better about accuracy (legs and spinner). All the Dragon´s FW 190 kits looks very good and accurate when finished. The construction is not complicated, you just have to be carefull and pay atention when attaching the wings to the fuselage. I prefer the Italeri kit.

Well, I took your advice fellas and bought the Italeri's 1/48 FW 190D-9 and I also bought the Revell's 1/48 Messerschmitt BF-110 G-2 at the same time. Is the 110 G-2 a decent kit?

Thank you very much for you help!

Hi Jan:

I never built a Revell Bf 110 so I can´t help you with my opinion, but I found something about it:

Hi Jan:

I found a couple of pics of a Bf 110 G4. It´s modeler says it´s a ProModeller kit, I gues that the quality is the same as of the Revell kit.

Hi Jan:

The Spitfire Mk VI and the Mossie are waiting for their canopies.
Now I´m working in a Spitfire Mk XIV (Hasegawa 1/48) that´s coming out very nice. When finished this paint work I´ll mask the three canopies and paint them all at the same time (the three are RAF Dark Green). With this Mk XIV for the first time I attached first the upper wings to the fuselage and then the undersides of the wings. In this Hasegawa kit this worked fantastic and the joins of wing / fus and the underside gull wing to the aft. fus. didn´t need any filler or sanding.
After these three kits I´ll continue with a Spitfire Mk Vc.

Recieved my 1/48Italeri FW 190 D-9 today. I have a question about this kit though. On the tail, where the theater bands are usually painted, there's a big noticable ridge. You can see it on the box art as well. Looks like something that they put there in case that they would sell the same kit with a different tail. Anyhoo, is it something that should be there, or is it something that needs to be sanded down|???

Hi Jan

I just had a look at the kit and i am still not sure what you mean. If you care about the two "angles" form the Rumpftonne (insert to balance the longer engine) it is of even shape and thus there is an angle wher the fuselage meets this insert and another where the tail is attached

I am in a hurry now, so if you have problems to understand what I wrote, just ask and I'll answer later

best wishes

Steffen

The ridge is right in the middle of the inserted extension to balance the longer engine.... The panel lines is there in angel with the body as with the original, but this ridge is perfectly vertical.
Sorry that I can't post a picture Steffen.
