This is my attempt at a Revell 1/48 scale Mustang. I have used it a test base for trying some new techniques.
The kit came with raised panel lines which I don't like. So I had a go at doing recessed ones. Being skint I had to use a piece of chopped up metal tape measure to use as a marker for scribing. I used a sharp blade to mark the line but found it left a raised edge. I tried a number of methods to clean the edges but found all of them left some residue but I think I got most of it. For painting I used enamals as acrylics are not available in the local shops so I made do with what I had for now. I did a base silver coat and then shaded the panel lines with dark grey and a bit of tamiya smoke. I then airbrushed the second silver coat and found that it pretty much covers the pre shading but i think it came out ok. I have also used Klear for the first tiem as well as micro sol for the decals.
I still have a long way to go before my stuff is any good but i enjoyed the challenge and can't wait to get started on the next kit which will be a 1:72 skyhawk.
Please look at the pics and leave your coments. All are welcome as I am keen to improve and this site has given me so much info already. Sorry about the quality of pics but I have a rubbish camera. thanks for looking.

Hi Chris:

That old Revell Mustang kit in 1/48 is a goodie ! Good job you have done I never rescribed an entire kit, but sometimes I did it when erasing some panel lines with the sanding paper, and for that I use the scribing tool from Bare Metal Foil Hobby Co. It doesn´t leave raised edges.
The paint looks a little granulated, what brand of enemels did you use, or maybe the Future coat ?
That P 51 looks nice. Good job

I used a mix of humbrol and Revell enamals. The paint isn't grainy I think it is the mottled effect from using the silver over the top of the grey paint. I didn't completely cover the grey as the silver just covered it over and you could not see it through the silver. I don't know if it was because I used it too thick but i don't think so. It may be that I only have a basic Revell airbrush and can't afford to upgrade it yet.
Thanks for your comments
