The lead article from the Picadilly Times newspaper 27 Nov. 1917.
Noted Hero Missing during patrol returns! Colonel Rowan Camelhill- Baylies of HMRFC tangles with noted Red Baron and lives to tell the tale. The photo below was first published in the 1 Nov. issue.

The caption reads, " a right pair of aces and a jack. Col. Rowan "Biggles" Camelhill-Baylies (sitting) and the Mad Major Stephen "Ginger" Lawson (standing at left) pose infront of a shared trophy from their last contact with the Baron's staffel. Before tea they share their experince with a newly arrived pilot (at far right) ..."

O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum, Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!

The news came out in the First World War,
the bloody Red Baron was flying once more.
The Allied Command ignored all of it's men,
and called on Biggles to do it again!

Was the a month before Christmas and forty below,
when Biggles went up in search of his foe.
He spied the Red Baron and fiercely they fought,
with ice on his wings, Biggles knew he was caught...

Christmas bells those Christmas bells,
ring out through the land.
Asking peace of all the world,
and good will to man.

The Baron had Biggles dead in his sights,
he reached for the triggers to pull them up tight.
Why he didn't shoot, well, we'll never know.
Or was it the bells from the village below?

Christmas bells those Christmas bells,
Ringing through the land.
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man.

The Baron made Biggles fly to the Rhine,
and forced him to land behind the enemy lines.
Biggles was certain that this was the end,
when the Baron cried out "Froi Ge Wonacht, mein freund!"

The Baron then offered a holiday toast,
And Biggles our hero saluted his host.
And then with a roar they were both on their way,
each knowing they'd meet on some other day.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells,
Ringing through the land.
Bringing peace to all the world,
And good will to man.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells,
Ringing through the land.
Bringing peace to all the world,
And good will to man.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land...

LOL! Hi Stephen

It was an epic battle - but we settled it over a cup of tea!

Sorry to everyone for my non-show of late, but I've been trapped in the Piccadilly Bunker doing video work. Work's been very heavy of late and it's only going to get worse in the run-up to Christmas when the documentary I'm working on has to be delivered for transmission. I'll look in as and when I can...

In the meantime, Manfred and I are comparing knitting patterns - he does a wicked cross-stitch and reckons he can darn that hole I made in the wing - no problem!| |)

All the best

Rowan
