The squadron catalog has a kit of the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura in 1/48 that I'm interested in getting for my stash. I'll build it someday. "yeah, right"

Before I shell out that much for a kit I'd like to hear from somebody who built an FM kit.

It does say it contains "resin, photo-etch, and white metal" details.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve

I personally hate FM kits. how to put it .. when the local heros like Rowan or Jean-Luc look out for a challenge FM kits might be somewhere on that list beside Mach 2 or some resin blobs .

Matt Swan Aka Swanny Is a really good modeller with lots of experience. He is actually building FM's Do 24 ...see his build report Dornier Do 24T 1/48 F.M.

Hope this helps a little for your decision, but in the end you have to make it and not me.

cheers

Steffen

Thanks, Steffen

Well, I guess I might wait awhile. My stash is pretty big right now anyway.
You did, however, put me onto a real good website that seems to have some interesting stuff in it.

Hi Steffen!

Thanks for the link! So we have the proof that the Do 24T from FM is buildable! :-)

Steve, I agree with Steffen. The only real quality of FM kits is that the subjects have not yet been produced by other manufacturers. Other than that they are probably the most challenging kits out there. I think Mach 2 kits are even worse!
It's not that they are not accurate, but the quality of the injected parts are not up to today's standards. having said that, I'm looking forward to have FM's new Hs 126 kit!

Jean-Luc

P.S. Local Hero! That's nice! Thanks Steffen! :-)

I started their H-21 "Flying Banana", a bird I really wanted to build.

I quit. There were too many major fit issues - I was literally reshaping all the interior parts to get them into the fuselage. The white metal took a lot of clean-up.

I'm OK having to work for a kit (ie, I like Classic Airframes), but not to that degree. I doubt I'll bu another F.M. kit.
