For those of you who know me know that I mainly do Armor. But lately I have a craving for modern Jets, perferrably Vietnam era.
So, is there any suggestion you can make for the following planes. (I like 1/48), and I promise, I won't end up putting a Balken Kreutz on it.... #:-)
A6
F4
A more modern one:
F15 Ausf E
or a
F/A-18
I prefer that the kit comes with the load, so I don't have to buy extra, and this will be like an OOTB build.
Thanks wingy people! #:-)

That's a good choice !
I love the F4. The bestoffering is probably the hasegawa one, but I don't know for sure.
Revell is releasing an A6 right now. Simply, I don't know at all if it's a new mold or an old dog. Also, I think it's an A6E, and that's too modern for vietnam.
You can also find some nice skyraiders... but that's not a sleek jet.
Hasegawa has also recently released an A4, and it's supposed to be a great kit ! That's probably what I'd counsel ou, most of all if you like navy high vis decorations.

If you can find an A6 in 1/48 scale let me know. I've been casually looking for one for about a year. Pen Pen is that Revell kit 1/48???? You're gettin' me psyced.

I'm going to have to agree with PenPen. Hasegawa is probably the best F4 out there. I built an Academy F15 that was pretty good, but it was a D version.
You start building those Nam era jets and we'll have you buying OD by the pint in no time.

Hi Dave,
Hasegawa makes some pretty good 48 scale F/A-18's :-) I have a F/A-18 C in 72 scale from them and it has a cool "Chippy Ho" scheme. If you find you a F/A-18 and don't like the decals, let me know cause I have a set of twobob's Aggressor scheme decals. One is the blue scheme, and the other is the brown one. They are cool looking.... #:-)

I don't do 1/48, but on a philosophical level: the F-4 is the archetype of the Vietnam era jet. It can be done in 3 color jungle scheme (Air Force) or a gray on white Navy or Marine bird with colorful unit markings. Personaly, I'd go with an Intruder (I worked on their electronic cables in 69 and 70 at a Grumman subcontractor). They were colorful and carried a bunch o' bombs. The teen series were not used in combat in Vietnam.

If I were you, I would start on an easy kit. I would start on the new F-105G Thunderchief from Revell-Monogram (or Revell I think). You could also do a Revell-Monogram F-4J Phantom.
Not jet related but Vietnam era is Revells Huey gunship, or if you can find it, their Cobra gunship.
If I were you I would start out with the Phantom. It turns out great, and in my opinion it is as good as the Hasegawa (although money has prevented me from seeing a Hasegawa Phantom.) It is inexpensive and fairly easy (the Revell one).
Academy does a Mig-21 Fishbed, and Hobbycraft makes an A-4 Skyhawk in Nam' markings.
I scored a Heller Cessna O-2 Skymaster from a local hobby shop. But it is a Forward Air Control prop plane. You can build an easy Testor OV-10 Bronco FAC plane. Thats prop to.
Revell makes an F-8 Cruesader, but good luck finding one. I haven't seen one in a while. I also scored an A-7 Corsiar II from the same hobby shop.
All of the kits I mentioned are in 1/48 scale, thats all I build!
Being a high school student that doesn't make to many dills, I settle for the less expensive Revell kits, but work hard on them to make them look good.
Let me know if this helps you, I was once in the same boat, but mine got capsized by armor and I build more armor than planes.
Later,
Chip
