Ahoy mates. I'm working on the Tamiya A6M2 and I'm going to mark it in Akagi's markings for Pearl Harbor. I got the cockpit done and the fuselage together with the seams filled. I'll start the paint tomorrow. I'm going to paint all the markings using GPM masks.
This is the base.
Comments welcome.

Hi Gator,
Looking forward to your ReiShikiSen. It looks like the 1/48.
What color have you decided on, the old gray or the newer ideas, 'gray poupon', Ash or an olive?

Aloha Gator,
Once upon a time we thought that Japanese planes at Pearl Harbor were all "ash" gray. The challenge of construction has now been complicated by two factions in research.
There is a relic collector who suggests that his ZERO relics are BROWN (so called 'Gray Poupon' Mustard)..as found on the KATEs and VALs which crashed in Hawaii. His hypothesis is tainted by his use of tungsten lighting which shifts the scans of his relics to the brown spectra.
There are a host of Japanese researchers who have discovered the original Japanese color swatches and documents supporting the factory application of gray-GREEN paint...and have shared this with Tamiya, Sweet, and other companys. These Japanese relate that this gray-green was used by the factory on Mitsubishi Zero 11, 21, 32, 22 and Nakajima 21 and RUFE, AND in the field on many other aircraft. Thus the new Tamiya XF-79 gray-GREEN paint.
Please check my post on this site which lists those Japanese URL sources and supportive translations of that research. I understand that more is yet to come from Japan.
Cheers,
