Good start Lee!
I wish my workbench was that tidy.
Im looking forward to seeing this series develop.Its going to be great for people just getting into the hobby and Im sure I'll pick up some handy hints and tips myself along the way as well.
Maybe people will stop asking me what masking tape I use now,,( are you reading this James!!)...

Very very helpful for those of us who still have not made a jump to the dark side.
There is this Tamiya P47D in the stock pile that has been looking at me for well over a year now (it was a gift), and I would like to try it, but am spooked due to lack of knowledge.
You are onto something with this helpful multiple series.

Always great to hear from you.
Getting some clear and encouraging help for newcomers is high on my list of priorities. As Lee points out, there are no absolute rights and wrongs and everyone has different skills and outlooks - my eventual aim is to build up a range of articles that will serve as a real knowledge-base. I might even pitch in one day myself with a Rowbags-Build!

Like all things in our hobby, I learnt from writing these articles. Mainly I learnt that I need to take more pictures as I build
Perhaps, I can build these kits again in 1:48 using the same techniques but with more pics! Seriously though, I think a full article on using Alclad is in order as this has drawn a lot of questions. A nice big 1:48 P-47 with seperate shading on the Panels etc is probably whats called for. Also, an article giving greater detail about using the foam pieces on the Bf109 as a means of masking for mottling may also be required.
Actually, apart from writing the last couple of parts of this article, I'm currently working on a modelling 'dictionary' with entries such as -
Future – A trade name for an acrylic varnish often used on kitchen floors! For modelling uses, it is frequently applied as a gloss varnish prior to applying decals and after applying decals to protect them - especially if applying washes. It has other uses such as dipping canopies to get a clear ‘thinner’ looking canopy. When mixed with Tamiya ‘Smoke’ can be used to tint modern jet canopies. Known as ‘Klear’ in the UK and made by Johnsons.
I'll wait until I have plenty of things on the list then I'll start a thread asking for other peoples input and when it appears complete we can ask Rowan to publish it.

That's a great idea! It could take a while - and who's to say it'll ever be "complete" - but it'll be a huge help in overcoming some of the terminology that must baffle newcomers.

Boxes don't throw them out just yet!
I cut mine up to use the tops to scan for kit reviews. I still have some. Mostly I use the bottoms for project trays. I'll span the sides with the box top end panels ( because they are the right width.) Then glue them to the box bottom sides. That allows me to stack the same sized box bottoms (now trays) on top of each other. I use a sharpie to mark the tray ends as to the contents.
