The unit insignia is from the 83rd Escadrille. Decals are from the Glencoe issue of their Spad VII - XIII book.

Close up of the guns and motor. The engine is the Engines and Things resin 200hp Hispano-Suiza.

Hi Stephen!

Fantastic work! I like the way you bring your models to life with details of battle damage etc... very inspiring. How many Spad's do you have in your collection? Enough for a Portfolio I hope!

Jean-Luc

P.S. I've downloaded the pictures of the diorama... all I can say is WOW!

Dave thanks for your encouragement.

Jean - Luc! Merci beau coup! Actually I have seven so far with another DML in the wings...well this is Aeroscale. With the impending release of the Eduard Spad XIII kits in 1/48 scale I am sure I'll add a couple more in the near future. If the Eduard elf is reading this... the DML is good but there are some areas that need attention. Eduard's usual practice is a simplified engine compartment hopefully that means an engine!!!!

On the Diorama we are up to 52 shots. Thats about half. Working on the text as I write this. Some images are not as sharp as I like but when I took them I was but a neophyte with a Nikon. :-)

"Spad XII / XIII Aces of WWI" by Jon Guttman. Excellent book and he briefly discusses Madon's machines. Its #47 in the Aircraft of the Aces series. In my first run through it I only found one faux paux (on page 51.)

Other viable references for me were;

Aeroplane Monthly, IPC Magazines Ltd. Vol. 19, #8, Aug. 1991.
American Aces of WWI by Franks, Osprey Pub. 2001.
‘To Capture the Rainbow...’ by S. Lawson, Cross & Cockade Int. Vol. 29, #1, 1998.

Lafayette Foundation Archives, Denver Colorado USA.
‘Project Butterfly’ by Hardesty, Hastings, and Toelle, Cross & Cockade USA Vol. 9, and 13, 1972.-
-(Most excellent articles on the French 5 color camouflage patterns.)
