Hi all,
I'm just about ready to start my Eduard P-39 for the "Down Low" campaign. That is until I stumbled onto these web sites stating that the P-39 was NOT used for bustin' tanks. So, if that is the case, what should I do? Pick another plane?
Thanks,
-Derek

Hi Percheron.
I'm not the campaign leader so my opinion doesn't really matter on this subject, but seeing as the P-39 had a 37MM cannon, it's not too far fetched to think that it probably did bust a tank or two during the war.
I find it hard to believe that any Soviet pilot with a 37MM cannon at his disposel would not take a few shots at the odd Panzer now and then.
Just my 2cents

Hi Hermon,
I kind of agree with you. Those articles are interesting though. I did read that the Soviets gave the P-39 a pet name of "Little Shaver", "shaving" being used to describe strafing, which certainly takes place on the deck. But, like I said, I wanted to throw it out to see what others think.

Percheron,
You may want to send a PM to the campaign leader and ask him directly. I hope you do end up building the P-39 kit though. I've had my eye on the Eduard kit in 1/48 scale for some time and would like to see how well it goes together and if there are any fit and finish problems with it.

Well, the P-39 is accepted for the campaign. Basicly for two main reasons:
A - It was used "down low" as well as a fighter.
B - The 37mm cannon could be used to knock out tanks. Especially against the sides and rear.
So, no problem to join with your P-39. Looking forward to see it take to the air

Sweet!!
Now I don't have to go out and buy another kit! Then again, it would have been a good excuse!
Thanks again, this will be fun.
