Hi guys,
I've started my next project; a diorama of a P-47D captured by the Luftwaffe. I'm still waiting for some ground crew and equipment to come in, so I've only done some work in the cockpit.
Anyway, I have a question.

In this picture there is some tripod that's holding up the plane. I'm hoping that some of you could help me by showing a few pictures or drawings of that tripod as I would really love to scratchbuild it and put it on the diorama.
Thanks in advance

And here are some in progress pictures. Just the cockpit for now:

Here's some progress on my build.
Figures are from ICM

RLM04 on the lower surfaces

And a Olive Drab for the upper sufraces with a little preshading

The display base is finished. It only needs the little details like barrels, containers and such...

Oh, and since I'm new here... Is this the right place to post in progress pics? If not somebody please move it to the appropriate place

Hi Goran!

Yes it's the right place!

It looks like a very interesting project. I think Andy Brazier (betheyn) will also like it...

Have you modified some figures? Especially the second from the left looks different than in the box. I'm looking forward to see how the dio will look like once finished!

Oh, the officer that's holding his hands in his pockets? That figure is from an Eduard set. Sorry, I forgot to mention that...

Hi Goran and welcome to Aeroscale.
I cant believe I missed this post until now!
Some great work your doing there, and the extra detail youve done on the cockpit looks excellent. Is the wiring set on the engine part of a PE set?
What is the kit?
As for the trestle. Ive had a look around and cant find any reference photos yet. Having said that, If the Luftwaffe were to use a trestle like this on a P47 theres a good chance that it would have been built just for the aircraft.Probably welded together with some steel that was lying around in a hanger,so I guess you have a free reign to just build one however you see fit to go in the diorama.
Jean Lucs right, this will interest Andy.Im sure he'll comment on it soon.
Looking forward to seeing your captured Jug diorama finished.

Great cockpit.

Looking forward to see more. Those aircraft captured by the Germans look very special with their "wrong" markings and yellow tail and undersides.

Thanks for sharing

The wires on the engine are made out of thin plastic wire. Just a few basic details that were absolutely necessary
The kit is the 1/48 Hasegawa Razorback (348th fighter group)

Good thinking, Nigel!
That's just the way I'm gonna build it, using the best of my imagination

A bit more progress. It's not much, but masking these markings turned out to be a royal pain in the... Anyway, here are the pics

I applied black first, then the white. In my opinion, it was easier to mask that way...

Oh, and expect to see this one finished soon since there's a model competition coming up this saturday in my home town... Hope I don't screw something up

Cheers...

Can't believe I missed this.
That is starting to look really good Goran. The German crosses have come out really well, is the Swastika a decal or painted on ?
What serial number will you be putting on her. I read somewhere that T9 LK ( I think ) was probably used for reconnaissance missions over England at about the time of the D Day landings.
I have often thought of building a captured P-47, but keep getting sidetracked with NMF ones instead .
Looking forward to seeing this finished and good luck with the comp.

The swastikas are painted on. So is the T9+LK serial number. Only a few stencils are decals from the kit.

Another picture. Gloss cote is applied and everything is ready for the final weathering...

Thanks for the kind comments

Goran,
very nice work!
Would you care to share some tips on building the diorama base? I would like to build something similar, but have no idea how to create the grass and effects such as seen on your base.
Thanks.

Certainly, I'll try to sum things up.
The construction of the base began by cutting the thin lath to the appropriate lenght.

Then, I used a plywood base and nailed everything onto it.

After that, I poured plaster to simulate the ground. That wasn't a good idea, since the plywood began to bend because of the moisture in the plaster. But it's not all that bad now, just a couple of millimeters elevated on one side.

I then painted the plaster in some dark brown color. Added static grass on top of everything, and then some real dirt to make things a little less even. The static grass and the dirt were sprayed over by Humbrols matt cote just to make sure none of the dirt falls of into my room.

And to top off it all, I sprayed a bit dark green on the static grass because it was unbearably glossy and a bit red and yellow.
The end result looks kinda poor with detail to me, but I guess the figures and some other stuff I'm planning to put onto it are gonna make it look more dynamic.

Hope I gave you some good ideas
Cheers, and thanks for looking...

Thanks a lot. The grass is what puzzled me. Now that I know it's available as 'static grass', I know what I need to buy.

Not much more left to do. The plane is almost finished. It still lacks the machine guns and a couple of details on it, as well as on the diorama. Thankfully, all those details don't take a lot of time so I'm expecting it to be completed in a day or two.
The figures are also not fully painted...

Any critiques are more than welcome because now is the time to fix any mistakes that may have happened.
Cheers...

Stunning! It looks really good and will be perfect when the last details are added.

Will you add barrels, tools or other things in the "dead" space on the diorama in front of the aircraft?

Hi Goran.
What a lovely job!
The diorama really sets the plane off well and I especially like the composition. This should certainly be a talking point at any show.
Did you win a medal for it already?
Excellent work!,,congratulations!
