Would you care to share some tips on building the diorama base? I would like to build something similar, but have no idea how to create the grass and effects such as seen on your base.
Certainly, I'll try to sum things up.
The construction of the base began by cutting the thin lath to the appropriate lenght.

Then, I used a plywood base and nailed everything onto it.

After that, I poured plaster to simulate the ground. That wasn't a good idea, since the plywood began to bend because of the moisture in the plaster. But it's not all that bad now, just a couple of millimeters elevated on one side.
I then painted the plaster in some dark brown color. Added static grass on top of everything, and then some real dirt to make things a little less even. The static grass and the dirt were sprayed over by Humbrols matt cote just to make sure none of the dirt falls of into my room.

And to top off it all, I sprayed a bit dark green on the static grass because it was unbearably glossy and a bit red and yellow.
The end result looks kinda poor with detail to me, but I guess the figures and some other stuff I'm planning to put onto it are gonna make it look more dynamic.

Hope I gave you some good ideas
Cheers, and thanks for looking...
