Planet models usually release the weird and wonderful prototypes of the Second World War, and their two newest releases have not disappointed.
One each from the Allied and Axis powers and both developed as high altitude fighters.

Hi Andy
I just ordered both these beauties to review today from Modelimex! I've wanted a 1/48 scale Welkin for years and I nearly released the Fw 190 myself as a Blueprint Model back in the '90s - there's still a battered old half-built master knocking around my place somewhere...
Once a cetain pair of French socks are safely in the laundry bag, I'll have to do a High Altitude Duel build!
All the best

The Welkin does look nice. There goes my idea of buying it as a "/review" sample :-).

Hi Rowan!
Before going to high you should better stay at ground level... or better at sea level! Remember you have to build the Loire 130 this year!
Andy, thanks for the heads up about the new Planet Models kits!

Planet models have really made some interesting kits even though I do not know how the quality is. So it will be nice to see a review.
I am attrackted by some of their German prototypes that never got further than paper drawings or wooden mockups.
Does anybody know any additional sources for these kits other than modelimex?

Hi Jesper
The high-flyers have arrived, so I'll try to get cracking on the reviews this week:
Planet Models kits can be obtained from a number of sources - Hannants have both kits listed, but they are cheaper at Modelimex.
All the best

Hi again
In the course of unpacking the Westland Welkin for the forthcoming review, I discovered a problem - the kit included the wrong canopy (ironically enough, the canopy intended for the Fw 190!). I've contacted Modelimex, who've acted very quickly, checking their stock and informing CMK (who produce Planet Models) of the problem.
It seems as though a batch of the kits was produced with the wrong part. CMK have assured us that all the Welkins they currently have in stock include the correct canopy, but that still leaves the possibility of a number of faulty kits already on the market.
If you are intending to buy the kit in person from a LHS, you are advised to ask to examine the contents. If you've purchased the Welkin by mail-order, check the canopy at the earliest opportunity and contact your dealer for a replacement if you find the problem.
All the best
