I came upon an interesting story while reading "The Rising Tide" by Jeff Shaara. It focuses on a "bet" made between Gen. Montgomery and
one of Eisenhower's assistants. Montgomery won the bet by entering the town of Sfax, Tunisia before April 15th. To cash in on the bet, he demanded a B-17 Flying Fortress, and Eisenhower (though embarrassed) obliged.
Has anyone ever seen pictures of this plane?
The book also describes a B-17 flown by Paul Tibbetts, which flew Eisenhower to and from Casablanca a few times. Any pictures or additional info on this would be appreciated as well!
Thanks!
Steve
