Hi guys:
At last I finished this bird that was stationed in my workbench since end of December 06. I also finished a Mk VI that IŽll post tomorrow.
This kit is the Revell in 1/48. Build is OOB with the seat belts made of lead foil. Decals are a mix of the ones of the kit and of a Hasegawa set (upper wings). All the decals worked fantastic with Microsol, the result was great. Paints are Model Master enamels. Mate Coat is Model Master Flat acrylic.
Here are some pics. Coments will be very appreciated.

Excellent looking Spit!!! Looks very convincing
On the fifth picture, it seems to me as you forgot to paint the tire on the rear wheel... I could be wrong though
Keep on the good work!

Hola Carlos!
Another great looking Spit!
Im sure you already knew about the tire on the tail wheel
Those Model Master Enamels look very acurate.
Looking forward to seeing the MK V!
You must have quite a collection of Spits now, probably more than Mal :-)

Very nicely done Carlos. I am actually working on the exact same kit right now, albeit mine will be backdated to Mk.VIII standard.

Hi Steffen:
Thank you. The Revell and Hasegawa Mk IX / XVI kits are the same one. They say that the length of the fus is a litlle short. In the wings it has a bump over the wheel well that are ok for the Mk XVI but not for the early Mk IX. The length shortage is not noticeable, you have to have a bulls eye to catch it. The fit and detail are very good, Hasegawa standard.
I enjoyed the construction.
What Airfix kit are you using ? What variant of a Griffon Spitfire are you building ?
Regards.
Carlos

Hi Carlos
Well, I am no Spitfire boffin, but the ~6mm (!!!!! that is not "scale mm" but on the model) are very noticeable, especially in front of the cockpit (~3mm ... read the nose looks short) and the camera distorsion, that made Jean-Luc's Hs 126 look strange is helping you here!
Here is a picture of Brett Greens Airfix Spit Mk.IXc (this made me pull my kit from the stash) ..
I has been discussed thoroughly and I do not think this is rivet counting ... it just looks wrong. (as I said your model is great .. the kit is not).
Aeroclub makes (made?) a fuselage correction for the Hasegawa. See Bretts article for more hints.
best wishes
Steffen

Hola Nigel:
Yeah ! I forgot to paint the tail wheel. I realized about it when I posted the pics. The same with the Mk VI.
Model Master enamals are great. I have 8 Spits in my collection, and itŽs growing all the time
If you clik my banner and visit my link youŽll see them.
Bye, take care.

Hi Steffen:
Comparing the Hasegawa with others Mk IX kits yes there is a noticeable diference in length. Yet I didnŽt buid another Mk IX than HasegawaŽs. IŽll soon put my hands in a ICM. In the shelf side by side IŽll see the diference.
HereŽs an article about this matter.

BTW great looking Spit that one. The codes are in light blue, is that right ?
Regards.

I did not want to annoy you, so I left out the "in depth" links .. I appreciate your model, but the fuselage of the Hasegawa (Revell) kit just does not look right. I am no hard core rivet counter .. well, sometimes it seems so though .. and I can live with a mm off here and there, but in this case it is just too obvious. BTW I have posted that linke here one or another time ..
As for Bretts codes ... sometimes even the most experienced modelers make mistakes .. he forgot to match his colours to the decals .. the codes should be sky .. just read his article (link in above post .. very enjoyable btw).
Just 2 days ago there was a ICM Spit IX by Mark Beckwith on HS. I do not like his comparison photos, because I think the angle differs and you never have the same photograph when you shoot a real thing and then the model (even with the same equipment) ..
also I did not experience much problems when building the ICM kit .. just a bit of filling here and there and replacing the wheels (for my next ICM I have the small Griffon correction set, which will help me).
For the Airfix I have a larger set by Griffon, which addresses most of Bretts remarks. i also got myself a Squadron canopy, to avoid the kit Panzerglass ... still no perfect Spit IX out there .. OTOH has there ever been a perfect model???
cheers
Steffen
P.S. see included links for some pix of the mentioned sets

Lovely job. The canopy looks incredibly clear with no distortion.
