Greetings all;

Dwayne willy has brought up something to my attention. The Eagle Strike decals for the Alb. D.III set 48159 has some identity problems with four of the five profiles. I have been intouch with Squadron and they are discussing it now. The confusion comes from the artist's profiles being D.V types instead of D.III OAW types. They are also mislabeled as OEW instead of the correct OAW. Bit of a foul up there. The last profile is not from a Marine Feld Jasta it is from a Jasta . I'll check but I think it was Jasta Boelcke.

Gee... this is quick it took Squadron 10 minutes to get back with me. Squadron says that they only have about 100 set left and have no plans for changing the rest but will make the note for the future.

Stephen,
Thanks for your help in this matter. I hope this does not convince Squadron to limit their releasing of this line of fine decals! Actually I was wishing they would bring out some of the sets that some of us later editions to this genre may have missed out on, especially those lozenge sheets! I'm guessing then that the OAW D III machines would have the radiators offset right and the rounded rudder?
Thanks again, Dwayne

While I was talking to the VP representative ( head of editing) I told them that the Eagle Strike lozenge was a must for WWI aviation German subjects. They did seem willing to listen. More on this in a few days.

Here is what the 3rd Aircraft profile is based on. Note the slab sided D.III configuration.

Note also that the first profile is based on a machine that was used to test a Strip film Camera. It might be interesting to do this scheme and duplicate the camera and its supports in side the fuselage. There should be an access panel somwewhere behine the seat on the outer fuselage hull.

The 5th profile is based on the Alb. D.III (OAW) of Ltn. Papenmayer of Jasta Boelcke (circa Nov. - Dec. 1917.)

Jack Flash;
This is a a bad mistake, that could be easily fixed with a public correction. To ignore it compounds the error. After reviewing the profiles and the captions, I would recommend they go back to square one and start all over. Too many errors in the drawings and captions. If you are dealing with them on German decals, I suggest you give a better source than the one they are currently using.
Blue skies,
Dan

Hey Dan;
Actually they have been picking my brain on British bombers. The Eagle Strike Albatros D.III decals were done by Eagle Strike before the sell out to Squadron. I just happen to catch the problem when it was brought to my attention by a fellow modeler. I agree that the direction artwork should be done from scratch but if its that bad Squadron may just scrap the whole sheet. They are more interested in selling what will bring the highest profit with the least amount of hassle.

Dan and Stephen,
Is it possible that the colors and markings are correct but the artists just used the wrong profiles when generating the instruction sheets? It may be possible that they were using pre-drawn 4 view line profiles and they mistakenly pulled the D V instead of the D III OAW because of the similar rudder configurations?
If this is the case then we may be able to use them after all?

Hello Dwayne,

That is what has happened. Both the Alb. D.III OAW and the D.V / D.Va had the rounded rudder and the artist just picked the wrong template.

Stephen,
Have you heard any word from Squadron about the Eagle Strike Lozenge decals?

Only that they are considering it. Seems they have a good amount of Eduard stuff they want to deplete.
