The Bye, Bye Baby F-14 campaign is running now and it has really gotten me into swing wing aircraft of all sorts!
Is it just me or wouldn't "Swing Wing" make an excellent subject for the autumn-winter campaign season? I have been thinking about it a bit and I think it could make an interesting campaign since this is a clearly defined subject. It would also be possible to design a contest element much like we had in the Suez Campaign .
Some cool examples of this kind of aircraft can be found at the always trustworthy Wikipedia. I am sure there are a few more!
The major drawback that I can find is that while most of these aircraft can be found in 1/72 scale, the choice in the other major scales is a bit limited.
So, who would like to join? And when do you think we should start and finish? The time span should be long enougt so that each participant have a reasonable chance to finish three models.
Swing Wing 2007!

I'd be up for that I have a couple of "swing wings" in my stash including a Hasegawa 1/72 Tornado and an Airfix 1/48 B-1B Lancer. As for a time scale, towards the end of the year and into the next sounds good. You could even start it for when the Tomcat Campaign ends so anyone who doesn't finish for that can use it for this one (assuming Jean-Luc authorises it). Have you submitted it in the campaign section?

I would be up for it. I'm wanting to get in on the Bye, Bye Baby Campaign but my F-14 Bomcat is still in the pre-order status.
A swing wing campaign could give me a "card up my sleeve". :-)

No, I haven't submitted it yet, I want your views on it first. And it would be nice to send a list to Jean-Luc stating the 39 people who have showed their interest! Just 37 to go, 36 if you count me in :-) !

Hi Magnus, you can count me in if this runs for later in the year and into early next year. One other thing for me is that I build mostly 1/144 so please allow this scale and I may have the heavy weight swingers for you - B-1, Blackjack plus a Tornado or Russian lightweight.

My idea was to allow all scales, or at least 1/144 and larger! An extra gold star for the builder who submits a 1/1 MiG 27!

Could be cool. I would need to research some Russian subjects to find something to enter, but it could be a cool campaign. Count me in.

Hi Magnus!
You can count me in on a swing-wing campaign/group build!
After I have finished my 1/32 F-14 for the Tomcat campaign, I could build a 1/32 Tornado that I have in my stash!
We have a hard year ahead!
Cheers!

would sci-fi subjects be allowed in this? i ask because the worlds first high speed, swing wing aircraft was thunderbird 1 (beating the F1-11 into the air by three years!)
although set in 2060 gerry anderson actually made the show in 1966

I don't think a little sci-fi will hurt anyone! It is OK with me.

Hi all!
There seems to be some interest after all. Eight people (including me) have expressed an interest in participating and hopefully some more will join if the campaign gets launched for real!
I'll submit this campaign today with an intended take-off date of September 1 and a running time of six months for starters. The Tomcatters ought to be finished by August 31 so all are probably very tempted to tackle a few further swing-wings!
A special thanks goes to Camogirl for spellchecking!
Now on to the Tomcat...

I just got the message from Jean-Luc that Swing Wing 2007 is postponed until spring 2008 (for good reasons)!
So to all of you expressing an interest in this campaign: now you all have some extra time collecting kits, decals and aftermarket stuff!
