This is my latest build. It is a 1/72 scale Hasegawa KI-84 Frank.
The kit went together easily and only had a problem with the fuselage hinomarus, which I replaced with KI-44 fuselage decals. There is a little difference
in the size of the white border around the "meatball" but I think I can get away with it.
This aircraft represents the 29th flight group based on Formosa in 1945. Hasegawa decals are sure better than Academy. Enjoy.

Hi 'Star Gazer' ,

A fine Frank. As you know, I like a little more weathering--light exhaust staining, etc. The only thing I would suggest is a slight variation of the silvers to differentiate the NMF from the silver dope of the fabric control surfaces.

Well done.

Looks good.

You have had problems with Academy decals before? What are your experiences?
I have heard some bad things about Academy decals and have just bought a Bf 109 from Academy. I do not know if I should use the decals or go for after market decals.

Thanks for sharing

Yes, Academy decals can be problematic at times. You need to make sure you have a good gloss coat on the model before you decal.
Some people even buy Academy kits and use after market decals.
I've found them useable in most cases though with a little bit of care.
Thanks for the compliment about the "Frank". Take care. Russell

Thanks for the kind words, all. The "Frank" is a really nice looking design so it is hard to go wrong. I'm thinking my next project with be a J2M "Jack" or maybe a multiengine something or other. Russell

OK, I will try on my Bf 109 and see what happens. Thanks for the tip on the gloss coat.

I agree with what Fred said, maybe an oil wash would bring things together as well and would not require a lot of work to pull off.
