Here we go again. This kit was a gift from my friends as an attemp to divert me from building german aircrafts.
So what the heck, i have to give it a go. There are a few rewievs about the kit, so i won't go into details. So let me present the main actor.

Some progress. I've opened the bomb bays, but they didn't go in as smoothly as expected. They are way too thick, so i had to sand them until i was able to see through them. The same goes for the wings.

Another fine build from you ... like the others i enjoy your building reports, but without alcohol .. I prefer tea or other less toxic stuff

regarding the wheel bays, bomb bays or whatever you like to sandwich between the wings. I have had this problem very often ...... in case the parts do not fit I also sand the wing half that the opening faces to ... hard to explain, but if you can no longer sand on the opposite side and the resin it is quite obvious, that the other wing half is also a mm plastic --- more or less.

Here we go. After studying my refference books I've came to conclusion that the wooden wing version is much more appropriate for this kit than the metal one. Since the wing has 5 deg. sweep there is a good chance that the wing had wooden outer panels. So it was time to fill the panel lines with squadroon green putty.



While the putty was drying i installed the cockpit. It is a snug fit, and there is a lot of brass parts still missing.
Now i have to figure what will i do with gunner's part of the cockpit. There is no details whatsoever and a lot of sink marks to be filled.

Il-2s are awesome, but people take this kit (which used to be the Accurate Miniatures kit) as an "out-of-the-box" build and it can't be done with those metal wings. Sure, there were *very* few that flew with metal wings, but any decal scheme out there is for a wood-winged machine.

Some work has been done. I was busy adding details to the cockpit, especially the gunners part of the cockpit was completly lacking detail. I think it looks much better now.





Then it was time for some paint. I mixed my own green-gray cockpit color as i couldn't get the match from a single bottle.

Looks good so far. I am enjoying this build - and sitting well in the sofa

Here we go. After cockpit was done, it was time to close the fuselage and attach the wings... Dear God, what happened, Eduard?! Nothing fits.

Ehm, I've read those construction tips a couple of times and i am yet to meet a modeller who will assemble the kit that way... But i'll manage to save that kit, no worries...

Well .. I did not try it myself (I do not have the kit) .. I just though it might help .. surely there are a couple of build reports over the net, that can be helpful ...

I know you can cope with any problem that a model has .. maybe try a Classic Airframes F-5B to have a few poblems you can solve

Ok, I don't have that much time for modelling .

Uh, this was a pretty tuff, but it turned out ok. I still have to clean some surfacer and sand some areas, but looks good to me.

I too would like to know more details as I picked up the Italeri (nee Accurate Miniatures) kit today as payment for helping (or hindering) my local hobby shop

What i did? Uh, i filled the large gaps with styrene, then i used squadroon green putty, sanded everything smooth, and at the end i applied some mr. surfacer 1000 on some parts to see if everything is alright.
After that, i had to rescribe the panel lines that were gone as a result of filling the gaps, i attached the tail section, did some schratchbuilding here and there to correct the mistakes made by CMK, and now it looks like this. But i will know for sure when the primer will be sprayed on.

I thought of some kind of assemble sequence ( "glued part x to part y and added some sheet on the lower edge to fill the gap to part z") knowing the tricky fits beforehand makes life a little easier .. but o.k. I will find out myself
