Hey all,
This may be a basic question, but I really have no idea and need to know for a diorama idea.
For a Ju 87-B1operating in the Mediterranean Theater (probably out of Greece) what would the canopy "glass" be made from? Actual glass? Plexiglass?
I'm specifically looking for the section on the left side of the plane, next to where the gunner is positioned.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve
I've always taken it for granted that the panels were plexiglass.
All the best

Thanks, Rowen.
I thought it was probably plexiglass, too, but when I tried researching it, I didn't get very far. I kept finding photos of damaged US aircraft, but couldn't find any of German aircraft with damaged canopies. Heck, finding pictures online of damaged--but bot shot down--Stukas was much more difficult than I had expected.
As I said before, I have a simple diorama in mind for a building challenge coming up at our local IPMS group and it involves some of the panels damaged by a nearby flak burst and plexiglass would react differently than normal glass would.
Anyway, thanks again,
Steve K

Hi Steve
I have quite a lot of references on the Stuka. I will try and look tonight what I can come up with.
Maybe even a photo or two......

Hi again
I found a couple of pictures that might be of interest to you although only one of them is of a shot up cockpit.
Hope they will be useful.

Hi Steve,
The only glass in the rear canopy would have been the section of armour-glass in the circular gun mounting. Note, too, that much of the framing around the rear canopy was internal.

Thanks, guys. The replies have been a big help, especially the pictures! Thanks, SGTJKJ!
The deadline for our club's challenge is in June. I'll try to post some pictures of it then. Thanks again. I really appreciate it.
