On April 21, 2007 we lost an angel.

BEAUFORT, S.C. - A Navy F-18 Blue Angel plane crashed during an air show Saturday, according to televised reports.

Witnesses said the planes were flying in formation, and then one dropped down below the trees and apparently crashed.

"The next thing I seen was just a big black cloud of smoke," Gerald Popp, who lives nearby, told CNN.

Lt. Cdr. Davis was the 26th Blue Angel killed while flying with the team. The Birds have lost 36 pilots and staff including 14 in a transport crash in 1958.

I saw them fly once (in person). Amazing...

Small consolation but I hope he died doing something he loved.

Most are talking about his staying in the bird to avoid a housing area. If true he was a true steely eyed soldier and a credit to his kind.
